Hi fellow ZR-1 brothers. Today I'm excited. After looking at the Barret Jackson thread over on the CF, I felt proud to be a ZR-1 owner. Not because of the figures the cars are selling at, but for the recognition that were finally getting. These phenomenal cars are starting to make their mark in history all over again.

I went into my local magazine/book store today, picked up my latte and went over to the rag rack scouring the mags for the newest Corvette publications. Much to my surprise, as I picked up the latest Corvette & Chevy Trader, I see it was graced with a beautiful Comp Yellow ZR-1 on the cover. I opened it up to find the usual statistics and a fairly accurate description on the history of the LT5 and the ZR-1 in general.

Next, I looked a bit further and saw that Vette Magazine also has a special C4 ZR-1 section in this issue! Sweet!! Again, nice write ups and some interesting cars. As an added bonus they mention a few familiar names like Tyler Townsley and the regulars ie: Kilebrew, Hill etc. etc. In addition theres an article on a sweet 415 owned by Sanjay Metha, whose name I also recognized.

I would like to think that among all the bad news of the economy and everything thats happening with GM, theres a silver lining for our group. The ZR-1 is finally turning the corner in both value and recognition as a world class supercar. I wish I had some REAL money, I'd love to own one of every year ZR-1 made.

Nice post. I agree. People won't remember all the details of the specific car, but they will be talking about the ZR-1's that sold for over $100,000! Good news for us.

Are you coming to BG again this year?

Right on brother  Might be the year and on for the ZR-1. Even though I am a ZR owner by one year I am always proud of the ZR and sometimes act like a evangelical preacher when talking to others about our breed..interesting some of the hardest converts are within our own Corvette ranks

I agree. It was nice to see the Z get some time on TV at BJ. I didn't like the anouncer who kept bashing the LT5. He kept talking about the fact that you don't have to have a complicated engine to make HP. Maybe I am just a little sensitive.:icon_scra

I'm feeling you on that one, Roger. I just kept thinking to myself, " but most of the world uses DOHC/4 valve engines, wtf!?"......even my DD has a DOHC/4 valve engine, and it's a stinking Cobalt!!!! There is no magic in the concept!?!

I guess I'm too sensitive too!

Media Nuggets form BJ

Well at least the Cadillac Pace car had the "Good Engine" in it the Northstar

And im not sure about the Nasa space junk comment when presenting the Active Handling ZR-1 was a plus.[-X

But at least the ZR-1 got some media face time and im with you Ryan that 454 was prob a pig

Anyone bashing the LT-5 has never experienced the sound and sensation of all those wonderful parts "moving in close formation." The LT-5 puts out a unique and potent roar and it loves to rev like few engines can. I love it every time I hear it.

Here's my 2 cents. I watched the black car and the purple car sold at very high numbers, although I think they they would have been higher if sold during prime time. Why did GM decide to sell these cars on the first day of BJ? :dontknow: I thought John H could have said a lot more about these cars and the others as well. The only comments he had on the purple car was about the wheels, he even commented they were still available. If i was up there and was asked a question like that I would have been babbling on and on about the ZR-1 in general. Why do they allow comments like "NASA junk" are thrown out while trying to sell a 1 of 1 car?

As we all know they are very special cars and I don't htink there are any others like them. Course, I am pretty passionate about the ZR-1 :worship: . Anyone else?

My wife asked me during the auction why I was watching it if it was making me soooo mad listening to the guy bash the LT5. I went on a short rant about all of the things the guy could have been saying about the car, but couldn't really answer her question. I guess I was just glad to see these great cars getting some TV time. Maybe it will cause someone who was watching the auction to look into the ZR-1's and become as big a fan of them as I am.

Some people are not sales people and some of the sales guys for BJ are idiots.

His Quote"NASA JUNK" But its not JUNK" - yeah nice recovery there after you just stuck your foot in your mouth :dontknow:

This brings up a valid point - does anybody know what that 454 brought up HP wise? I could have sworn they said it would leave the LT5 in the dust?

they said it would leave the LT5 in the dust?wouldn't be any 'dust'. ZR-1 would be GONE & 'dust' would have settled:cool:

I watched & I don't remember anyone saying " leaving the LT5 in the dust". I think that they intimated that the 454 was more desireable due to it's abundant LOW RPM torque. I think that all of the presenters forgot that back in the early 70's 454 LS5's were referred to as "garbage truck motors" due to their suitability for hauling heavy loads at low engine speeds.

I do remember that Mr. Dr. Date Code expressed that his choice would be for the 454 C4 & why didn't they make that car? I found that to be a bit strange in that if you wanted to go fast in a straight line a BB camaro or Nova or perhaps the SS 454/ LS6 for sure or any of the BB C2's or C3's. I guess I would have thought that those guys would have known that the corvettes after the C3 gen were first to be sports cars.

I found the sale of that virgin red/saddle 90 warmed the heart very much and the nicest thing that the presenters said was not much about the drive train.

That just jogged my memory, the guy said something like it was a mistake for GM not to make the big block car etc etc. I often think the announcers are not educated and are reading off of cards and the conversation often seems "forced" at best. When that one announcer was talking about John Heinrency, the conversation seemed awkward at best.

:iamwithst I think just as most people have no idea about the LT5 and the ZR-1 in general, this would include the BJ announcers. They really should educate themselves a bit more on the cars they are auctioning. After all, doesnt the amount the car sells for dictate the profit amount for the auction house?

At any rate, our ZR-1's have all the ingredients to be one of historys greats. Little is known about them, there was limited production, and they have an almost cult following. (thats us ) One day when I'm an old man, my son is going to have a real nice, valuable piece of automotive/GM history in his garage. Hopefully, he will be discussing it with some of your sons on this forum.

That's quite possible!

Here's a funny story about my son from about a month ago. He was sick and didn't like taking his medicine. It got to the point where we had to pin him down and force him to take it. Even then, he was able to spit out most of it. After a few days of this, I got an idea that I had no clue how effective it would be. I told him if he took his medicine he could go sit in the Corvette. He jumped up, went to his mom and told her he wanted his dose of medecine! We sat in the car for about half-an-hour. At one point he kissed the interior door panel and said "I love you Corvette." I think I may have shed a tear!

He'll be three years old in March. Last year he got a little brother that doesn't yet know about ZR-1s. I keep telling my wife we're going to have to get another Corvette. You know, to keep the boys from fighting over who gets it when we're gone. ;)
