With a lot of help from Jeff F, Nick S, Dave B and a little moral support from Rob M ;) I installed a set lof SW headers, bullet cats and a Haibeck chip on my 92 last Novemeber. The fit was, generally, very good other than than I had the airtubes installed..tsk tsk..doing it all over I would NOT go that way. Having them in place makes installing the header bolts a real pain.

The only other concern was where the o2 sensor bungs were welded on the collector, there were big hunks of slag left inside that were removed by Rob and a die grinder. He has the touch, as some of you well know. Thanks Rob

The headers and cats really were a bolt up affair. They bolted right up to my existing B&B's

The weather here has been awful since then with only a couple dry enough days to drive. What I have observed on a couple driving occasions. A little louder and deeper on the outside, with more crackle in the sound, sounds much better in my opinion Inside it' a little louder also, but not unpleasent. As far as drone, the B&B's are awful anyway, and I haven't noticed a change either way.

I would use SW again with the only change being the airtubes, in Washington, not having the airpump installed wont negativley change an emmisions test. As I understand it the pump only runs the first 5 minutes anyway.
Jeff Flint was invaluable in the purchasing and installation, making sure, on the Saturday I had all the needed misc items, wire extensions, heat wrap for the wires, electrical plugs, gaskets and bolt etc. Without Jeff in the game, being a Z owner in the NW would be a real pain, thank you Jeff, very much for your help.

While under there I also installed new o2 sensors.

Nick's wonderful garage and lift made the install pleasurable also, you know how nice it is to actually walk under your car while doing this instead of rolling around on the concrete :worship: Thank you Nick. Nick's ZR-1 is for sale and having seen it a number of times and getting to drive it as well, I can say its a great car for the money. Only problem with it, is it's red. Just Kidding ;)

I have no problem recommending the SW headers, I would though, encourage one to go through Jeff if possible as you get the product and the best service out there.

I had a great time doing this and can't thank Jeff and Rob enough for their help. They stayed all night at Nick's and WELL into the day Sunday before heading home to Portland. Note that Rob had to buy chains before he left as Portland was getting snow dumped on it and many roads were closing Sunday night. Thanks You guys, you are really what makes owning one of these cars so much fun!!

In Maryland, you can get to Marc Haibecks shop in 12-14 hours (depending on traffic) driving northwest. You can get to SGC in 12 -14 hours (depending on traffic) driving southwest. There are a couple of shops local and a few more within a few hours that are willing to take you money but either don't know what to do with a ZR1 or really don't want to mess with them anymore. It sure would be nice to have someone like Jeff here on the east coast, even if it was only planned occasional trips. Hint, hint.

Agreed, but Jeff only likes the Western Folks and the damn Canadians.

In Chicago we have a choice of Haibeck, Al, or Pete. Lucky us! :dancing

Headers are on my to do list this year. It would be nice to have someone close who knows the LT5 to install them.

I'm always up for a trip. Get a group together who want some mods done and I can fly out for a week or two. I'll be returning to Canada at the end of Feb.

I guess that from the NYC/metro area, HAT is maybe 16 - 18 hrs? I plotted a route to SGC once & the navi said 20+ hrs!

Samey same here in the NYC/metro area with the people that actually are known to have professional level knowledge of the ZR-1 & LT5.....they shy away from messin' with them now-a-days. 5's & 6's are way too easier & plentiful.

Ya know I'd settle for a shop & personal that would be into anything short of making big inch motors, ya know the simple stuff like preventative maintenance & maybe bolt on mods. That and just a willingness to tell me that "no we've never turned a wrench on a ZR-1" , don't tell me you know C4's and ZR-1's if ya don't. I guess I get p'ed off when I get my car back & it's small stuff that get's butchered, and not out of anything save for trying to push the work out fast. Sorry that this turned into a rant guys!

Jeff, there is a ZR-1 mini gathering Saturday. If I believe what I hear there should be a good turnout. I'll bring up you potentially making a trip east and we'll get back to you. Thanks!

Rick, good to see you post up on the header install you did in December. I thought your project came out great, and I was happy to see you were able to drive the car home the same weekend, with everything buttoned up. Seems to me projects like this usually carry over into the following week or weekend, due to unexpected circumstances.

It was my pleasure to host this event. Anybody else in the Northwest contemplating something like this is welcome to consider doing it at my place on the lift. Makes for a great weekend gathering, especially during these long Winter months.

Thanks, Rick, for the shameless plug of my car. Yeah, its red; aren't they all?
