Anyone out there ever use a company called Wheels America for wheel refinishing. They apparently have other locations in 6 or 7 cities across the US. I have a 90 ZR1 with the stock wheels on it. The wheels are in very good condition but have the usual minor blemishes you would expect to find on a 19 yr. car. What I'd like to do is have them taken down to remove any scratches and then recleared. Just wondering if anyone has any information on this company or possible feedback on wheel refinishing in general.

Commonaly used by insurance industry for wheel repair, same with trans wheel.....in my 16 years in Ins I have not had a complaint or wheel returned because of poor quality.

Years ago I used Wheels America to widen my sawblades to 12". I used the Dallas store and they did a fine job. Very pleased with the results. This was in about 1999. The wheels ended up with a better balance than when they started. Since I did not care about finish, I can't remember if they refinished the wheels. The wheels held together at 180+ sustained speed. Also, as I remember, the price was very reasonable at the time. I hate recommending companies, cause soon as I do, they screw up someone else's job. So all I can say is they did a good job for me.

I used Wheel Collision Center in Bath PA for a set of 1990 rims about a year ago. They did a nice job on mine but were a little pricey.

I used them a few years ago. (New York) It took them several attempts to get them straight enough so that I couldn't see them hopping on the wheel balancer. It was frustrating and they couldn't have cared less. Check out the one mentioned in Pa. I think Ron Kreigh used them a while ago with good results.

The "catch" with the '90 wheel is the "polished" flange. You need to make sure whoever does the project understands the polished flange. The polished flange will add nearly $50 to each wheel for the extra operation. I have a set of '90 wheels I've had done and they're "boxed"! Look to good to use for a "driver"!

There have been several reputable re-finishers that have been "bought up" by larger facilities that are more concerned with the faster paced collision replacement aspect of the business. It's difficult to recommend!

If Wheel Collision Center is under the same management/ownership it looks like you've already got a "referral". He mentioned "costly"! The polishing operation made it that way!

Ye Oled Wheel & Welding shop has done a few sets of A-molds for me and all 1st class. They're in Elkridge MD. They're highly recommended by anyone who has ever used them! John for sure is a "craftsman"! The Callaway guys like them! Very busy shop, this is may be the season. I've never asked them to "rush" and I believe I heard John ask a fellow to load up his wheels one Saturday because he questioned the time to completion!

Ask what material will be used for the "clear coat" operation. They aren't all "the same"!

I've been thinking about getting my '90 wheels refinished too. Please keep me posted on your results. I was also considering getting them powder-coated or painted. Anyone ever attempt that?
