Looks like there are about 5 ZR-1s up for sale at BJ this year, this is interesting and a good sign of the status of the Z!

Damn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This car should be at the NCM. But I guess GM is cleaning house. And trying to get a little cash as well.

Whoa, another thing I just thought of. This car is a prototype or a 89 production model. And according to GM should not exist. Notice it's sold on bill of sale only. No title included.

Cool...no pop up headlights...and the 475HP motor. Anyone no what they did to lighten it up and get the extra power?

If I recall, initially the extra power was not that much. It got to be more as they messed around with it more. I'd imagine ultimately the more was similar to the black widow more.

I believe the weight was the same way. Initially it was a bit lighter, then it got moreso as they did more. I believe it started with simple stuff like Dymag wheels, cloth manual seats, and other de-contenting and eventually turned into a lightweight hood, lexan rear hatch, etc. I seem to recall they eventually got it under 3,000 lbs.

Cool to see it going up for sale, insomuch as it means maybe we'll be able to actually see the car. Can the NCM pony up cash for this kind of stuff or do they only rely on vehicle donations, etc?

Isn't this like the auction for the F- 85(?) prototype / concept car that was sold 3 yrs ago? I mean the "mules" don't have a VIN # that you can use on a title for street use registration, right? I thought that GM never allows any one person to buy/have those cars? Or am I confused as usual?

I have another Q.... Is this out of the GM warehouse where they keep all the cars like the stuff that they sent to Carlisle in 07 at our tent area?

I wish they sent us this Snake Skinner for Carlisle(almost as exciting as the 12cyl)....

I totally agree with you about GM's selling cars they said they would NEVER sell or could sell due to being "Mules". But then again, GM has troubled times and maybe thinking of selling for extra cashola.

Yes, it really seems unfortunate if they have to sell off their history to pay the bills. I think it's fortunate with Corvette that there is a place (for now anyway) where that stuff can go to be preserved.

However, what about other brands? I recall seeing GM sell off their Oldsmobile Aurora GTS-1 car at auction a couple years ago and thinking how sad that was. It's certainly a piece of history in spite of the brand's ultimate demise, and now who will ever see it? I saw it in GM's lobby at the RenCen. What other pieces of GM's history will disappear or be locked up in some dude's garage simply because it's not currently "interesting"?

What are your predictions for the sale price.....if it sells for 25K I am going to be sick I didn't buy it.......I am guessing 125K or more....but not sure why they are selling on a slow day.

Pardon my being Frank :sign10:

But who would want a car that can't be licensed for street use ? A real wall flower. Paint or photo the car on a garage wall IMO. And save the cash.

Now if it could be licensed for street use , that would be a very desireable car.

Lic it as a kit car.....problem solved. This is a unique pice of history and was in about 10 mags as well as a test car for ZR-1 Tech.....my favoriate Z as it is the epitome of what the ZR-1 and for that matter any sports cars should be, focused on performance without the overstated luxury items. Honestly who the hell needs power seats(you can adjust a manual seat in 5 seconds vs 30 for power), expensive stereos, and all the other gizmos....give me a loud, light weight car, that can hustle around corners any day over a luxo cruiser.

Just my opinion.

LGAFF,

Agreed. Get an 84 Xfire with Z51 suspension. Pull the motor and drop in an LT-5 with the ZF-6 TRANSplant and a Dana 44. You could buy the 84 for 3-5k. Put C5 brakes on it. The only issue could be hood clearance from the unique underhood air channels for the magesium air cleaner assembly.
Even the wheel offset is the same as the ZR-1. My 84 weighed in at 3200lbs. ;)

Title is easy like Lee said.

I think all 1000 registry members should donate $100 each to buy this car.

Then give it to me for Christmas present. :)

Looking at the list, appears there are 2 snake skinner cars....was not aware they made 2. No good pics available on the website.

Also noted several Impala SS cars, I wonder if the LT5 Impalas are on this list?
