I am trying to get my ducks in a row for 2009.
I would really like to know when the Gathering is going to
be held, so I can plan some events, around it.

My grand opening party, car show, poker run...etc...
SO.....what's the word....thunderbird??? :dontknow:

If you’ve never been on the receiving end of “The Look”, you don’t understand its implications and these comments are not intended for you. A Gathering on Mothers day requires that you engage in a discussion with your better-half while suggesting a preplanned Mothers Day weekend getaway that includes driving hours to a Corvette event to enjoy activities targeting those with deep and unusual interests in man-toys intentionally designed to be powerful, loud, fast, and potentially dangerous. The period leading to and including such a negotiation about said weekend is one of life’s unusual occurrences where neither logic, patience, nor diplomacy are of any value.

In no specific order, survivable examples of other life altering events that DO NOT result in “the look” include:
- Multiple purchases of man-toys such as a ZR1, large screen entertainment systems, etc.
- Large investments in engine modifications to weekend race cars.
- Extended OCONUS TDYs to unusual destinations greater than 30 days allowing little and often no contact home.
- Going to war.

Examples of Events that guarantee “The Look” (and its implications) where survivability is often highly questionable:
- Modifications to the home resulting in most any volume of drywall dust.
- Corvette Gatherings on Mothers Day.

If it’s on Mothers Day, you tough guys have a great time. I’m not even going to ask…

They have tried that in the past, and i think they found that acquiring the dragstrip was harder. And also attendance did not fluctuate up or down by moving it off of that weekend.

Why don't we just put together a ZR-1 gathering in Bowling Green on another date?

Just about any other date would work better than that weekend.
Ron, Mom, are you there.

Course I can't make it in 2009, but am already hoping things are better for us and we can make it in 2010 for the 20th Anniversary Gathering. There will be one right?

Cool...that's what I thought, but wanted to double check since I've only driven and not flown to BG....thanks.

I'm keeping an eye on Orbitz for a cheap flight........I just booked a round trip flight to cleveland from denver for $179...........the same flight was $340 last week(that I booked) so they refunded the differance to my card this afternoon.

Hopefully I can get to BG and back for under $200 if this event is still hapening then.

Ry, take a look at Louisville as well. The drive is maybe another 10 miles, but air fare may be cheaper going into there. Rental car may be a lot cheaper.

Mothers day weekend would be a safe bet.

Mother's Day is on the 2nd Sunday, May 10, 2009.
The Gathering will be May 14-16 according to the NCM calendar.

Can someone confirm May 14-16? If so, shouldn't be any problems with Momma.

May 14-16 this years "theme" is "milestones and mules" we're looking for any rare and tuner cars to come on out!

we want to see as many ZR-1s and their owners there as possible.

I'll be taking some time off over the holidays and getting the word out.

thanks!

I am glad to hear that the ZR-1 Gathering date is SET and that it is not on Mothers Day. I look forward to going to the Gathering and to see a lot of ZR-1 owners there.

OK. So who's going from Chicagoland? With Pete at 474rwhp, you can bet he's bringing the car down.
DO these dates mean we'll miss having to drive through a "car wash" ?

A few of us are staying at the the Hilton Garden Inn across the street from the Plaza. Cleaner facilities, at a cheaper rate.

Pete,

Maybe this year Lee will drive down now that he won't need to put miles on his
"red one" god forbid. Maybe Paul, Hans will come down along with Don. Each
of them with ported plenums.

I thought maybe we can attach a trailer hitch to your Z and I could tow the red one down.........at the rate things are going with the owner on the 90 I might not have it by then:mrgreen:
