Just interested what people might have planned for over the winter. My personal one is finally getting my C5 brake conversion finished and installed.

So far I have the calipers - front set of C5 (got the rear set too if anyone needs them!) replacement C4 rears as I wanted to leave the originals untouched). Also have stainless hoses and the adapters from Jeffevette.

I need to find someone to PC the calipers (I also assume I need to completely strip them to do that) There's a company in town that does PC but I don't know if they have any experience with this kind of job.

So how about everyone else? Any interesting plans?

Jeffvette Pced my Calipers and abutment brackets. Id give him a call. As usual great work.

GC - that's certainly a possibility. I just want to check out local options first. Otherwise the postage will be more than I paid for the parts ;)

I was wondering about the brackets actually. Would it help protect them more if they're PC'd too?

Dave, the big thing on the brackets is it frames the caliper better. If you are wanting a red/yellow or other bright color, the black bracket just helps the caliper stand out.

I've seen some that have done the caliper and bracket the same color and it looks blah.

Well, with snow a blowin and drifin' around my back door, I officially ended my 08 season - called the insurance man and "put her in hibernation". So, let the games begin!

Phase-I: This winter: Goal - cozy up to 400 rwhp as possible and move power curve out to 6800 or there 'boutz.

P&P the top-end
SW header install, sans cats
Freshen up the clutch works
Beam plates
Resolve my lean condition - possibly a chip.
some type of exhaust system (haven't decided, but 3" will be the demark)
Possibly a 410 rear
Possibly new carpet

If I get all that done by spring, it will be an accomplishment, considering the working conditions!

Phase II: (Next winter) Add another 50ish rwhp -

Have the head work done
Probable re-grind of the cams
Possible 368 conversion...maybe.

I'll have questions along the way, I'm sure!!

Hi Bob

Certainly will be taking some pics as things move forward and keeping everyone up to date on progress.

Jeff - thanks for the input on the bracket colour there. I hadn't thought of it in that light before. I've been struggling with what colour to go with for the calipers. I know a lot of people go with red and wanted something a little different. More recently I thought of black like the grand sport calipers - my natural tendency is to keep things fairly subtle, but I understand your point. So maybe I need to think a little more. Anyone have any suggestions for something different, subtle and attractive? (Like me really ;) )

Paul - You have a heck of a list there. Hope you get it all done. Much of it is on mine too, but next years priority is to get the garage done. So I need to keep things modest on the car just for now. I hope you share some insights into your projects as you move forward. I have the c-beam plates but they will have to wait a while till I can install them I think.

You mean to store a Vette? Absolutely have room, and "reasonable" rent (might cost ya some of your expertise and little else). PM me if your serious.;)

I really dont have an official "winter" here in GA but in the next months I am planning a coiuple of projects for the ZR1:

Install complete new brake system, MC, lines, calipers, etc.

My gas tank was a rust bomb and so I tossed it. Big project will be to fab a cage around a sumped cell and make it fit nicely.

Find a black label ZF6 from MN6 car.

Hopefully I will have all 3 accomplished by X-mas but that is quite optimistic considering how slowly it goes down here. I wish everyone the best of luck with their projects.

About the C5 brake conversion, is it really a big improvement over the OEM ZR1 setup?

Not an expert but I believe the pad size and difference in leverage add up to around 30% more braking power. I think too that the c5 calipers absorb heat better so you get less fade. Someone else could probably quantify better though.

Thanks for the info BJ. That might be a good bet - I think the one local to me is really just an industrial PC company, so they might not know what they're doing on brakes.

I've done the C5 brake upgrade now on 2 Vettes. My previous 84 (BIG DIFF) and now the ZR. Works great on both. An addtional advantage of the C5 calipers is "supposed" to be that they are stiffer and offer less flex than the C4.

My first winter project has been cleaning and detailing the suspension, front and back. I'm just putting the wheels back on now.
The next project will be door window sill seals as they are starting to crack.
Who makes the best looking/fitting/good quality replacements?

Got a box full of some custom goodies from Carter @ (CT MACHINING,perfect work as usual)so I will need to install those. I did a show polish & took down the welds on the Corsa exhaust I picked up from Al (OLD HOTRODDER) that needs to go on and ship my old B&B to Jeffvette(if he sends me my PC'd rear brake cal.) Going take apart my 3 peice wheels for the second time in 2yrs to PC the barrels black then add a 1/4 " red pinstripe around the outside perimeter to match the red pc brake cals.
Looks like I will also PC an extra set of half shafts & drive shaft (easier to maintain than polished) My suspension is all polished and I'm always give it a once over to keep it looking game ready. Like to do the same to the Batwing if anybody knows of an extra for sale.

Polished suspension??? You go to lots of shows I assume. That must be an absolute pain to keep looking nice. I try to just keep mine clean and its almost impossible.

Tom the concensus that I found by searching the topic on the felt outer window wipes seem to be get the GM ones.....expensive, but they seem to be the better choice for ease on install and final results. If you need GM P/N's I can dig them out of my bill collection.

Will do  I think the rims are really going to look trick. I had them for sale several months ago with no bites. I'm now glad they didn't sell.

I do several corvette only shows a year that I enjoy. Politics gets involved in to many of the others so they are BullSh*t. I'm not your typical waxer, I like to drive my car HARD! Ask TOMTOM72 about our trip home from Carlisle last year ;)

Lada is the trademark (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trademark) of AvtoVAZ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AvtoVAZ), a Russian car manufacturer in Togliatti (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Togliatti,_Russia), Samara Oblast (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samara_Oblast). All the manufacturer's vehicles sold nowadays are of the Lada brand but this has not always been so. Ladas were AvtoVAZ's export vehicles, the same models being sold under the Zhiguli (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AvtoVAZ) brand on the domestic Soviet market since 1970. Lada made its name in Western Europe (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Western_Europe) selling the Fiat 124 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fiat_124)-based VAZ-2101 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VAZ-2101) and its many derivatives as an economy car (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Economy_car) in large quantities during the 1980s, but subsequent models have not enjoyed the same success. In Sweden, the early models were sold under the name "VAZ" due to similarity between Lada and the Swedish word for "barn".

That's HALF of what my local stealership was asking for them.
No wonder GM's going bankrupt.
