Took my Z to the track today Great Lakes Dragway last time till spring.

I put my Z on 2 different Dynos (Dynojets) and ran her at 2 different tracks to back up my ET's/MPH.
About a month ago went to a vette track rental US41 temps were 80's she ran 11.40's @ 128, today temp was 44*f ran 3 passes then i got the boot.:)

1.78/11.32 @ 129.05
1.86/11.50 @ 129.23
1.74/11.09 @ 129.27

I'm very happy with my Z :-D
Now for a few more little performance tid bits over the winter (maybe gears),shooting for 10's and 130MPH then i'll be ready for BG.

WooHoo, buddy! U makin friends of the KOTH proud! (And, a N/A 350 at that!!) That Z of yours is a "hall of fame" candidate for sure! Congratz, Pete. I know you've put a lot of TLC into that car, and it surely shows it. I sure would like to be there when you break into the 10s...have to break a bottle of Campaign over the hood...well...mebby not. But! it will be time to party:dancing:dancing:occasion1

For others reading along, some perspective: Pete's Z was the top dog at the Corvette gathering at US 41 a few weeks ago - over all comers including several C6Z06s.

Well, gotta go to work, but thought I'd check in and see what was going on. Glad I did!

Pete,

I wondered if you were going to go yesterday. I would have come with but had go to a previous engagement involving my daughter. I don't have to tell you that daughters take priority over drag racing. =Jeff= and I may have a way of getting you into the 10's.

Pete,
Those are some fantastic times and speeds out of a stock displacement NA LT5 motor.
What tires were you running?
With those hard launches what are you doing to keep from breaking spindles, u-joints, and half-shafts?
Are you running stock spindles?
And what gear ratio are you planning to go with?
Last weekend I broke the right spindle on mine on the first pass I tried at the strip. Now I'm in the process of putting it back together and would appreciate any advise you can give on how to make the drive train more reliable for occasional strip use.
BTW I had those skinny A-molds on you sold me a while back with some new Hoosier radials on and they sure looked good on the car.

Pete,

Couldn't you get the same result by dropping $130K on a new 09 ZR1? Most of all your car doesn't even have a fishbowl on the top of the hood.:icon_scra. I think the idea that Dominic and Jeff have is to fab up a plastic blue engine cover to put on top of the LT5, its worth 15-20hp.

I had the Hoosier Drag Radials with this cold weather i needed all the bite
i can get.

1.70's aren't really that good 60ft a friend is getting 1.50's.

I have stock spindles and have my fingers crossed everytime at the track
my advice cross your fingers:) just don't fall/buy those expensive spindles they break also stay with the stockers cheaper.

Those skinny a-molds would get a lot of attention/compliments.
Can you send me some pictures of the wheels with the Hoosiers on them.

I have taken wieght off the car all the Marc H. tricks with a few others. This year i finally made the decision and yanked the A/C since i haven't used it since i bought the car 10 years.

I haven't weighted the car i would guess around 3200-3250.

Brad i would love to try the 3.92's,is it a complete pumpkin or just ring & pinion?

I keep my suspension setting in the middle sometimes too soft might get wheel hop try it but get off it if you get wheel hop that is a good way to break sh!t.

Lee,if i worked for GM they'd still be #1.
Let me give you one little example where GM screwed up heated seats are for Cadillacs, 2 ton Camaro WTF.

I would make a bad @ss sports car and i mean a real sports car stripo roll down windows,no carpeting, no center console,no A/C basicly no sissy stuff real mans car like the old Cobra, it would weigh 2500-2600lbs put the LS7 in it charge $30,000-$40,000, heck a freaking Enzo has roll down windows and no carpeting for $1million
My cars would sell like freaken hot cakes.:)

Thanks Dennis.
If i wanna get better 60ft & ET i will have to go with bigger gears.
Winter project :)

Rob,i'm pushing 3rd gear all the way to the end too close to the end to upshift.
I have my rev limit set to 7700,shift light 7200.
Shift light is glaring ON just before the traps.
My RPM gage is incorrect but i figure i'm going thru at 7400-7500.

Maybe some light wieght front runners for 130+MPH :-D

My math shows 129mph at 7500rpms with 3.45's and 25.7in tires - I'd say thats just about perfect for the quarter mile assuming your powerband looks a lot like mine. If you're gonna try gears I'd go with at least 4.10's otherwise you'll end the quarter part way through 4th and the extra gearing may not compensate for the time it takes for the extra shift. Your results are making me seriously think about doing a cam swap - stop it already

I was running 26.2" tall tire.
Bob,yes your right 4.10 is perfect for 1/4.

My peak comes in just shy of 6800 474rwhp, 5200 400rwtq

The cams are worth 20 RWHP.:)

.236 .425 In

pete, talked with my suspension guy he seems to think that you can use 4.10 gear if you go to a 27in tall tire if you stay with the tire you have now your wheel speed ie tq multiplication will blow the tires off ruining your 60fts . i shared your dyno results with him . he also thinks that you might find that shifting at 7200 would help. the reason he thought3.92 would work is the fact that you are using the 315-335x35x 17 tire. he was worring about your wheel speed off the line . just food for thought

you must notice the steering being a little lighter when going slow, huh. run 11.99 E.T. or quicker & you have to have steel valve stems, BTW;). i'll tell ya' why if anyone is interested:hello:

Yes they turn a lot easier at slow speed the regular size Michelin Pilots and GY D3 fronts I have and they handle surprisingly well at higher straight line speeds to. However, I don't expect I'll be doing any frisky cornering with them tough.

Nothing would please me more to have to change to steel valve stems

I'm suprised the tread depth on those Hoosiers, they look like you can drive around town with those.
Probably makes the rears look wider.

I had the spare donuts on them and ran at the track twice 125MPH runs trust me i was worried but they suprised me,stoped with no issues.

I'm sure the Hoosiers are better then the spare donuts that i used.

Side profile looks stock.
They look awesome.

So why do you need steel stems faster then 11.99?
