If you have ever priced out a rebuild on a zf s6-40, You'll know just how damn expensive the parts are from ZF or RSG. They have had the market share on these for wayyyy toooo long, so with that in mind, we set out on manufacturing these, i sent samples to our manufacturing co in April.

I just got in our 1st set of the gasket & seal kit for the 89-96 ZFS6-40, this includes all the seals - gaskets - caps - counter shaft nut & plugs.

Priced from ZF or RSG these will run you over $200.00 a set, our price $49.99

We're also having the synchro rings re-made, these are only available as a full set and sell @ ZF or RSG for over $600.00 per set. Our price is $199.99 per set, or $49.99 for any one gear.

Although we have received the samples and have approved manufacture, these are not available for 5-6 weeks. I doubt very few people on here will have the interest in rebuilding there own ZF's, but at least with these prices it now makes it a bit more doable.

Kurt, any chance on getting a different 5th & 6th gear ratio made?

Sure is, they make gears as well, only down side though is supply and demand. I have no problem in selling a seal and gasket kit, or synchro rings, but not too many calls for a different ratio.

I shall at least make the call, what are you looking for?

Competition among suppliers of quality parts is a good thing. (Oh, damn! There I go thinking like a capitalist again! Sorry...)

But, dittos to Jeffvette's ratio changes for 5th and 6th (especially).

Jeff,

I sent off the gears yesterday to have a set evaluated & determine if indeed they can make different ratios. bear in mind though, unless i can justify somewhat of the cost to do this, it will not happen. Making gears is by no means low cost, but we'll at least give it a try.

As you requested:

5th - .80 or .82
6th - .60

Jeff,

Got an email this evening from my supplier, they have advised me they can make the ratios you requested based on the samples provided, I'm going to put the order in in the am and will email you when arrived.

4-6 Weeks turnaround (I'm expecting a large order in from them in 4 weeks, so i hope they can squeeze these gears in at the same time, i'll keep you posted) Price should be around $300-$400.00 per gear depending on tooling costs.

Hhmmm...hard to complain about that...considering all the work involved, IMO.

Sounds great Kurt. I'll talk to you about it some more at SGC.

That's a great price if it includes the drive and driven gears for 5th and 6th. I can see $300-$400 per gear on the countershaft since they separate from the shaft, but the gears on the output shaft are part of the shaft meaning a new output shaft too. That means even if you only replace one gearset, both "gears" still have to be made on the output shaft. Am I missing something?

The price of $300-$400.00 is per gear, the main shaft has yet to be priced, (This will be under $500.00 though i do know) but you are correct & that the manufacture is indeed making 5th & 6th gear, as well as the main shaft. Since i am having them make the main shaft that will work on the Lotus Carlton as well, we have that market too to help off set some of the costs. The Lotus carlton main shaft will work on the ZR-1, but the ZR-1 main shaft will not work on the Calrton.

If anyone, other than ZFDOC can figure out why the Lotus Carlton main shaft will fit the ZR-1, but the ZR-1 will not work on the Lotus Carlton, i'll give you a free set of engine main bearings.

You can only post one answer & i'll run the offer until Tuesday 6pm est. The 1st person that guesses correctly, gets the bearings.

did this get answered??

Never did get answered i'm afraid. The correct answer is the LC has a type of output shaft that bolts to the main shaft, whereas the Corvette has a slip yoke.

An update on the gears & it's the SOS.

They can make the gears for me $50.00 each
Main shaft $200.00 each

Minimum qty:

Gears 300 each
Main shaft 500 each

So, forget about getting different gear ratios.

These have been finished for about 4 weeks now, but i've held them up at my supplier as i am waiting on a bunch of other parts from the same supplier to be finished and shipped at once.

They will be with me in 3-4 weeks time. The synchros though ended up been a no go, they was unable to make them the same material, so we decided against it.

I'll have header gaskets in stock on the same shipment, these are $9.99 per side.

if i may ask what material are the header gaskets made out of ?same as the factory ones ?
