View Full Version : Poll: How many plan to buy new C6 Z06

This will be my first post on this forum. Just out of curiousity . . .

Obviously, current ZR-1 (as well as many C5 Z06) owners are the most likely prospective customers to buy a new Z06. Let's try to find out how many of the membership are so inclined. Please vote and post (optionally) as to when and/or why you are going to buy or not.

Let's try to keep it "real", the question is WILL you buy, not do you WANT one? What this poll will try to determine is how many ZR-1 owners (past and present) have the financial resources to buy AND want this car.

I was lucky enough to get a ride in one of these during the Z06 Fest. A most impressive car! Definitely worth the asking price. Would walk away from both my 1990 ZR-1 and my 2002 Z06!

First, hello and welcome to the forum.

In answer to your question, I'd probably take the same tact I did with the ZR-1 when it came out. I drooled on it, but knew there was no way I was going to pay sticker price for one. So I waited until the prices came way down and now I am happy that I did. Sure, I missed out on years of pleasure, but I used the money I would have spent much more wisely. So if I do fall for the 06 Z06, it will be at least 4-5 years before I consider buying one.

No way for me. A toy that expensive doesn't make any financial sense for me. Though, I don't drool over them the way I drooled over ZR-1's and Callaways when they were new. I LOVED C4's, but merely am impressed by the stats of the Z06.

My ZR-1 is a dream car for me, regardless of power or speed (which thankfully it still has plenty of), that cost me less than the average new car.

The new Z06 is very impressive, though. And the wider body and superwide tires is very ZR-1esque. In fact, it's the first 'vette to have wider tires than the ZR-1 as introduced in the 1980's.

I said the same of the ZR-1 when I first read of them in 1990. got my 92 on 10-10-03. so in abt 20 years well maybe 10 i'll find a nice used one, till then I am happy with the KING!!!

Right now I believe I will get one - someday. But I am in the club that would not buy a first year model from GM. Not only are there too many problems the first year, but they always come out with something better the next year. Look at the FRC, the SSR, and the GTO for example. Not to mention the '97 C5 was a POS and the '05 C6 got off to a shaky start already with the crankshaft balancer bolts coming loose. I can wait!

IF I hit the lottery, then ABSOLUTELY!! Make it DSOM!! Until then, well, let's just say it's waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy y out of my price range.

I was planning on a Ferrari to replace the ZR1 when I wore it out, but after seeing the new car and specs, but not driving it, I have decided the new Z06 would be the replacement.

The problem with buying a new Z06 is that there is certain to be a huge dealer upcharge for the first year or two. I own a 04 Z06 and a 91 ZR-1 and wouldn't dump either car for a new Z06. I am very happy with both of these cars and will wait a while for the prices on the new Z06 to cool off.

I'd like to have a new Z06 but it is impossible to justify the extra money when my ZR1 is so much fun.

However I am willing to trade immediately one-for-one.

Not at this time. Gotta put a kid through college. Maybe by the time she's out, there'll be some nice low mileage used
ones for sale.

Not for me. Awesome machine indeed, but as fast as technology is progressing the performance stats will be old news soon. The Z is more of an oddball no matter how outdated. Think about it. Until the LS1 had been out for a few years and guys figured out how to make them run, there was nothing better than the Z. That's at least a good 10 year run of being the King! LS1's are quick, but there is nothing unique about the LS series of engines, being produced in everything from vettes to vans; for some reason the bodylines don't appeal to me; but a great car nevertheless.

You better do a little research on the LS7 engine, for if you do, that comment will surely change.

No not buying a new zo6. Just paid for my oldest daughters wedding and my twins start collage next year. Anyway my ZR1 has always been my dream car, it's all I need.

Interesting poll . . . so far the majority of ZR-1 Net members are NOT going for the new Z. Even more interesting - although the cost factor has been mentioned several times - nobody has brought up the sluggish economic conditions continuing to hamper high priced car sales since 9-11.

Still quite poor nationwide are such things as job security, cost of living raises, stocks and bonds not nearly as lucrative as they use to be, businesses still hanging on by a thread, higher (record level) price of gas, etc, etc.

Buying a luxury car or in this case an ultra high performance C6 is generally purchased with discretionary funds (i.e. surplus income). There just isn't much of that to go around these days.

Which in a way is good because for those of us patient enough to wait out the enviatible price gouging for the first model year (and beyond?), MSRP will once again become meaningless just as it did for the ZR-1 and the price to be paid will fall.

The other factor quite naturally is the number of these new Zs that will be produced; the more the better for exactly the same reason.

In the end the law of supply and demand will dictate just how "desireable" owning one of these new Zs is to the hordes of working class enthusiasts. A Corvette showroom priced at $65,800, with various options, tax and license fees, puts it into 70 thousand range! Add financing charges and it becomes a major investment. The monthly payments prohibitive for 9 to 5ers.

Still a bargain as opposed to most other high priced cars even remotely comparable to the Z's performance; nevertheless, certainly beyond most everyones' spending allowance. :-({|=

After getting a chance to drive one a few weeks ago, the answer will be yes. But I will not get rid of the ZR-1 to do so.

I am familiar with the LS7 engine; spent a lot of time around LS1/6 buildups; Its JMO that the DOHC motor was just a bit more ahead of its time than the LS7 is today. I'm not disounting the LS7 by saying that; they do make some stupid power, and have some serious parts in them.
I personally decided not to buy a C6Z;there will be plenty of low mile examples around many years from now to be had on the cheap. Until then,(and hopefully afterwards) I'll continue playing with the Z. I can't get past the presence of these z's from the rearview!

I voted NO. I will retire in about a year and a half and I am very happy with what I have now.

I voted "Undecided" because, first of all, I never say never. Second, I have only had my 90 ZR1 for 6 months or so, and am still in the process of discovering it's fun factor. Just the other day I blew off a black 308gt Ferrari. We both entered the freeway, I was behind him, and going for the #1 lane. He started to move over, on the throttle, when I, in second, slid right over to the fast lane and blew by him! I know he saw me because I saw the car squat down when he stepped on it. The amazing thing is that the Z was not even panting! Just smooth easy power! You just cannot beat the price/performance ratio of this car! The rarity and history of the car is just icing on the cake.

So, until I have the last bit of fun with my Z, and the price of the new Z06 comes down, I do not see myself buying a new Z06. But, never say never!

Thats my opinion, and I am sticking to it!

I voted no because I'm lucky to have been able to pay for my new ZR-1. I'll never have the cash to go and buy a new C whatever ZO6 let alone the present one. I feel lucky to have enough cash to own any corvette, let alone a ZR-1! I would never buy a toy with borrowed money; so if I'm still looking when a ZO6 costs less than half of it's sticker then I might consider it but I'll not sell the ZR-1 to get it. I can't afford to even pay attention at sticker price!

Oh it's a better car than my ZR-1 but it took 16 yrs to get it to the showroom. Heck a C5 ZO6 is a better car than my ZR-1, more technology but just open the hoods & then tell me about the view. Great cars but out of my range when they're new!

No, to much money, I will be happy with a Zr1. Right now the the ZO6 cars are "me to cars". They are a dime a dozen. Give the new ones a chance they will be all over in the next few years. The Zr1's are far and few between. More class is my eye's speed is not everything.

I voted not sure. I just bought my ZR1 and am looking forward to many yrs. together, I don't plan on ever selling it but I could see my garage with another vette in it someday along w/the ZR1. High production #'s will help my cause, looking to pick one up in 10 yrs low mileage and .40cts on the dollar.

I think I'll wait a couple years to see how much the price drops. But i will never be without my ZR1 in my garage.

I'm keeping my 88 basically stock, making my ZR1 as nimble and fast as I can, and I'm buying an Elise next, in addition to, not replacing either Vette.

i voted no. i think the car is worth every penny. compare it to what's out there. i'm adding on to my garage to make room for what i have plus i'm actively looking for a ruby ZR-1. my uncle(more like a brother type) got an 07 ZO6 in Aug. & i've personally had it up to 171 MPH around a sweeping curve, i mean what's not to like? for some reason the car dosen't give me the hot flashes. don't know why? . i totally appreciate the technology involved & all but...i don't know what to say, i have no inner or outer desire for one. the new blue devil/ SS or whatever it will be dosen't do it for me because i'm a naturally asperated guy to the core, that's an easy answer. don't have an easy answer why the Z06 dosen't get me going, wish i did:icon_scra. my ZR-1's on the other hand:worship: :D . don't need to explain anything to you all about that:dancing .

I just sold my 06 Z06 and took a 90 ZR1 in on trade. The z06 is an awsome car in every respect. Only reason I sold it is I have a Blue Devil or what ever they decide to name it, on order.

Not interested in the new Corvettes. I wanted a ZR-1 since 1990 and I finally got one. I couldn't be happier. ZR-1 owners are great people!
