I'm doing replacement maintenance. Would it be a good idea to put a fresh air intake temp. sensor in by now? (1990 ZR-1 with 56k kilometres).

Well if you can get one on the cheap go for it. Is it necessary is probably debatable but I replaced the coils on my car because I was there although they were working fine but I replaced them due to age more than anything else. If you can get one replace it and keep the orginal as a spare. I dont see any harm in it. GC

What exactly are you trying to fix?

I think this is a premptive maintenance as stated.

I understand, but it's not like we're replacing the starter!

I figure maybe it lost some its "performance" in function by now. ive never heard any talk about ait sensor life before. so im just wondering if replacing it will add some more precise readings. i do know the 02 sensors wear out eventually. but theyre in the exhaust wear the gasses are harsh. but who knows, maybe age and small amounts dirt over time making its way through the intake has affected it. I am doing preventive maintenance but i do have an issue w/ the engine running 100% properly. and i know the AIT reading can affected A/F ratio and ignition timing. I'll have to make a thread on it w/ a video to show how it is idling.
