Anyone see Steve Ahlgrim' s Steel Blue 200K mile ZR-1 in Corvette Enthusiast magazine? Many of us saw the car at Haibeck's it still has the original trans/shortblock with next to no wear on the liners.
Also has all of the original dirt in the engine bay......this is really great to see someone driving their car not only around town, but at the track including several one lap of america events.

If I recall I think the head gasket blew, apparently this car was far from pampered....run hard at the track.
Anyone know does the owner frequent here, I noticed he is in the 100K mile club.

#234Nikasil is a wonderful thing. i'm speaking from firsthand experiance. with a lighter ring pack & gas ported pistons no telling how long liners will last.

He's in my Corvette club. Really nice guy who's always willing to talk about his car.
I asked him and he said he doesn't use this site, but he does have a ZR-1 Registry sticker on his car. He races his car at all of our track days and she's still in great condition with almost 200,000 miles. Definitely makes me miss my Z that much more when I see him roll up at my club's meetings!

Any way to find out what kind of shape his chains and wearstrips were in at that mileage?

See if you can convince him to take a few minutes to register here and come on board.

Replacing chains & guides will take you some deeper into the engine. Front cover & oil pump has to come off. Locating new chains & guides could be an issue you would need to resolve before getting involved in the head gasket replacement. Would be a good time to replace the front seal & even the oil pump seal.
How many miles on your engine?

hi jerry , my blk 90 has 153k on her . i do have a spare 91 motor but its being used for another project . i use this car as a daily driver and weekend warrior at the drag strip. too bad this happened she was running the best she ever has run . the car seems to lose 11/2qt of coolant every 150 miles . thought it might be the cap but i guess not . i cant find a leak anywhere . the thing is she runs the same temp as allways 180 deg (170 stat) she doesnt get hot . but the plug on no8 has crystals on the 4 electrodes (bosch fusion ) but it doesnt look steam cleaned like when it happened on my other 90. so i am at a loss to what gives only thoughts are head gasket is starting to go. any other thoughts ?????/ i am all ears
