comming back from the drag strip the low coolant light came on. i opened the rad cap which had pressure and found it to be about 11/2 qts on water filled it . about 80 miles later it did it again . i find no leaks anywhere . could it be the cap or is there somewhere else i need to look

Are you losing it out the exhaust? Could be head gasket? Gasket Failure on the IH?

pulled the plugs and seem ok , no leaks any where i can see , i did change pressure caps and it did seem to suck down the overflow a little . wondering if the pressure cap could cause it not to suck out of the overflow >?anyone here of this ?

You need to use a pressure tester on it with the engine off - much easier to find leaks that way.

The best advice is to put a pressure tester on it. Just to mention this but a very common coolant leak is from the water pump. Very hard to pinpoint but it usually will be evident front center of the engine on the ground of course. Good luck hope it is mnor. John;)

i got this dye test from napa and it turned out negative . put a new radiator cap on her and phew she is back to normal. didnt know the cap could cause that.

well the dye test isnt all its cracked upto be. well i guess i get to pull a motor and change a head gasket. might have to send them out to be ported and put my spare in .

the spare engine (bought from kelli midili last fall ) got the heads, inj housings and plenum tranfered by a young man that is going to uti and wont be back from school till dec . . corey ported the inj housings and plenum for the 91 and i put them on my short block . the callaway allready has ported heads the inj housings and plenum are only extrude honed so i thought i might transfer the inj housings and plenum to see what type of power it makes after the headers came for it . which they did a couple of days ago. who knows i think i might go to the strip at vegas to see what it will do on fri. even though it will be slower than famoso. too bad the gathering isnt going to have a drag event this year. the black car doesnt over heat or run hot ever . it just seems to loose 1`1/2 qts of waterand turn on the low coolant light every 150 miles. nothing in the oil so i just dont know if its the heads or something i am not seeing .with 55 yr old eyes thats very possible .
