hey guys,

How hard is it to put an Automatic Transmission in an LT5?

A local friend bought a LT5 Crate motor and plans on installing it in a 35 Chevy... Also is going to purchase an automatic transmission and install it as well.

I "heard" it was hard to get everything to work right and not as reliable to use it, but is that really true?

How many LT5 automatic's are out there and is it a good idea?

thanks!

David

From what I've read the 4L80E bolts right up to the LT5 bell housing.
NitrousJunkie has one such set up and ZR1Pete has done a couple of them. Brazilfree has one.
Do a search on that "Other Forum", there's lots of discussion about it.
I can't speak on reliability, but I'm sure that with enough $$$ anything is possible.

Looks like an interesting project, keep the pics coming!!

Mine is a 4l80e and is still going strong.. hard to beat if you like autos..there is also a site for a company that biulds some wicked 4l80e's and sells upgrade parts- It cost $10k to install in 1994 ( I wouldn't think it would be that much on a setup for the 35Chevy however)

Well....

His cost is less than half of your $10k believe it or not. We are setting up a group of "locals" to visit his garage and also member who owns a bar in the area as well!!!!
