I entered my first Corvette show this past weekend, these people didnt have a clue as to what a ZR-1 was.I wont be doing this again anytime soon. But I did have the privilege of parking next to the nicest car there.http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a136/FLYTYM/IMG_0103.jpghttp://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a136/FLYTYM/IMG_0101.jpg

It was just a pain in the a$$,car sitting in the 100 degree weather all day long, all the cleaning and detailing and the car still looked like $hit.I did it once.

Evidently a car very few know anything about.Did that answer your question?

Shows suck. I go to socialize and walk around. I'll wash the car, but that's about it.

For me, I would rather be on the track than in a lounge chair.

Z51Jeff, there were 4 other ZR-1's at the show, two Ruby's, one black and my White. Have to admit your White/Red was looking good. I go to see/talk to other ZR-1 owners, new and those that have been with the car for years. Sorry I didn't get to talk with you, did see you drive in, you must have pre-registered as you had a good parking spot.

Are you going to the mile shootout in LV or to Thunderhill for Corvette Days on Oct 9th.? Sign up and drive the car instead of sitting watching folks walk by, you won't be disappointed.

I saw your white 93,nice car.I was surprised to see 5 other cars there. There was a 90 at the end of the street.I did pre register was was pi$$ed when I was prevented from parking in the preferred parking area even though there were spots open.Just the whole scene of car baking in the sun all day long, sitting on a lawn lawn, all day long. Not for me but I did it once.Ill have to agree with Jeff, wash the car and call it a day.On a side note.Ive owned Corvettes for more 23 years and the impression I always come away with as far as Corvette Clubs goes,a bunch of snob a$$holes and some officials at this show lived up to that impression.Ill have to pass on LV.my work hours suck.Do you ever hang out in the Northern Calif section?Lots of get togethers.

I don't enjoy showing my cars either, but when I go to a show, I have it clean so that others can admire. Recently I took my Z06 to a car show and won a silver award. The wife and I cleaned it up about an hour before the show.

Part of the hobby is meeting people, having conversation, and educating them about the Corvette. I took the ZR-1 out a week ago, and while gassing it up a gentleman walked around it and said, "That's a real ZR-1" right? We talked about the car for another fifteen minutes.

Corvette Shows will always be about 2 things:

1) The newest and the baddest Corvette.
2) Vintage Corvettes

The ZR-1 is a legend but its still not vintage status.

I remember when the ZR-1 came out, the attention at shows was unreal. Even into the late 90's.

Alot of first time Corvette buyers bought into C5's and C6's. They know very little of C4's. As a matter of fact, if you don't have your hood up at a show, most won't even walk down the aisle to glance at your car.

Over the years I've noticed there are different types of people at shows:

1) :-({|=Guys who tell you about the special Corvette they had that was a one off by GM and how it is better then what you own.
2) :sleepy1: Lots of old men wearing Corvette sneakers.
3) :worship:Guys who need their ego fed and have tons of Bling.
4) :icon_scra Guys who have no clue about the real purpose of a Car Show.
5) :icon_thum Cool Car Enthusiasts

You go because of 5)

I used to show my Corvette at least twice a year. Now I've shown it twice in the last 5 years. I have a decent amount of trophies and don't need anymore. Shows are very political and you know whether or not you have a nice Corvette, you don't need a judge to tell you that. Plus, the general methods of car shows are screwed up anyway. If your ZR-1 has 5,000 miles on it and its never driven, how is a guy with 60,000 miles going compete against that? I think that mileage should be considered when judging cars.

Shows are about fun, networking and meeting up with friends and making new friends. Shows are not fun on hot days and best in the spring and fall.
You will find that what makes shows worthwhile is the quality time with your friends or the new friends you meet. At every show, there will typically be one or two guys who really appreciate the car and know what the car represents. I can never see myself bringing my C5 to a show.

Your car is really sharp by the way. It's time will come soon enough!

Here are a few guys eyeing the Lt5 in 2005.

I must admit, sitting in a lawn chair at a car show leaves alot
to be desired. My first couple I cleaned and waxed http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j9/kmoudy/cartoons/washwax.gif

then I polished and buffed http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j9/kmoudy/cartoons/wax.gif

And i didn't win diddly ****...anwsered a bunch of moronic questions
got hot and miserable, and swore i'd never do another.

THEN...i attended a show, where, the enthusiast's KNEW what a ZR1
was all about, they took pic's http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j9/kmoudy/cartoons/foto.gif
asked the right type of questions, and the birds started to sing,http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j9/kmoudy/cartoons/darkgigot-le-vrai.gif

the
sun came out, and i won 1st place in the C4 category.
some days, it's good to be the king.

Count me in as not a show fan. Even huge ones like Carlisle, after about an hour I am getting all ancy and just want to gtf out of there. The only part I enjoy is meeting up with other Z owners, but I'd much rather meet up with them at a drag strip or something where the cars will be moving.

I hear you Bob. I've never had more fun with my car than at the VIR HPDE this year. A lot of people came up to see the car there. Of course, it was almost the oldest car there and on the track too!

I have a blast at carlisle but I admit I spend most of my time over in the parts section and in the forsale section, plus the bullshiting and walking around is fun.

Im not there for the show I have driven up there twice and both times I dont even think I washed the car to tell the truth paint all faded and busted up haha

not a show car at all:thumbsup:

Well between the guy with the man boob's on the left and the beer gut on the right, your car was in danger of being crushed and turned into banana pudding.

I use to go to car shows, but that was only to get away from the ex-wife for the day :dancing The hot sun suxs, dogs peeing on my rims and some guy dripping his icecream cone all over my car, yup real fun :sign10:

Also, who needs a plastic trophy or plaque, how about a case of oil or something car related :blahblah:

90 ZR1 Funny, I would take a case of Budwieser instead of the trophy. I go to the shows to check out the women and talk cars and look at cars in that order. :dancing

JT,

Its the younger kids, even ricers, that have a respect for our cars. I recently took my Z06 wheels to a tire shop for disposal. Wheels were wrecked. The kid there asked what car they came off of and I said my
ZR-1. He extended his hand to shake mine. I told him that it was a 92,
and he said "It doesn't matter what year it is, its a ZR-1". Cool. :saluting:

I went to my first show last fall at the Lake of the Ozarks. The people were interesting, from the super snobby to the down to earth fun crowd. I ended up runner up in C4, Lost to a great looking Grand Sport. There was a ton of interest in the ZR-1 as it was the only one there... Hoping to go to a few more shows unless they get too snobby!

I enjoy taking the ZR-1 to car shows. Usually, I am the only ZR-1 there. I don't get much time to sit in a lawn chair. By the end of the show, I am exhausted and close to losing my voice from all the talking (bragging?) Seems that not many people know the history of the car. I like to tell them about the car and the LT5. Interestingly, it seems that the C5 and C6 owners seem to know the least about the car and don't know what they are looking at until I explain it to them.

I'm going to put my car in a show this weekend and they allow you to join multipule classes. I was wondering if it woud cause trouble with the judges if I entered in the Import class as well as the C4 Corvette class. Not that I would want to start to start any trouble. Nor do I expect to win. :icon_scra

Import ?? Surely you jest, albeit the engine was of a LOTUS / GM
design, the ZR-1 is all American. :proud:
