I'm not into the Corvette show thing but there are two shows that I do enjoy and try to make each year. Getting a chance to see a bunch of ZR1s in one place at Carlisle is a kick. There is something about driving my ZR1 to the beach that also gets the old blood pumping.
On October 3rd and 4th, Free State Corvette Club puts on a pretty nice show in Ocean City, Maryland. Ocean City is not a great beach resort and it is not cheap, but in years past they have attracked 600 to 1,000 Corvettes for the weekend. I've often been the only ZR1 to be seen although in recent years there has been one or two more. What's really amazing to me is having so many Corvettes enthusiasts in one place and how few of them have seen or even know what a ZR1 is.
Anyone interested in a strong ZR1 presence this year?

Aren't those dates the same as Fall Carlisle? No wonder I've never made the run to Ocean City even though it is a short drive for me. I'm always at Carlisle... I just like to spend $15 on an Italian Sausage sandwich and a lemonade....

Considering that too....
Talking to a few Z owners about making our own "meet" there. What do you think of doing our own thing there in OC? Have a mini club event on the Boardwalk?
Might be worth the trip, what do you think?
$28 for Sausages and lemonade (beer is much more expensive)

David, I might be willing to do a split if there are others at Ocean City. I could spend Friday at Ocean City and go to Carlisle on Saturday. I don't want to be the only ZR-1 guy at Ocean City - I'd rather see my friends from the Registry.

They have a "fun show" at the inlet. After the show they typically do a parade on the boardwalk. You actually drive your car from 1st street to 31st street on the boardwalk. People line up on both sides of the boardwalk and watch, clap, and generally raise he$$. When you say "doing our own thing", if that means have the ZR1s pretty much lined up together as part of the show, I don't think that would be a problem. In fact, I can talk to the Freestate club and try to set it up if we had an idea of how many ZR1s we might have.

I got a response from Freestate Corvette Club. Basically, they would love to see a group of ZR1s at their show. What they ask is if there will be a group of ZR1s that we'd like to keep together, that we stage ourselves before entering the show or parade. What we could easily do is pick a time and a place to meet before the show and parade so that we could enter both together.
The remaining question is whether there is any interest in this OC show.

I will be there. I look forward to seeing a lot of Z's there.
If the Fun Show is not your thing, you should try the Gimmick Rally. I had a blast last year.

hey guys,
Anyone seriously interested, please post here or PM / email me. I have a few options and if we get a few more people to confirm, prices per person should be $50 to $100 per day.
Looking @ the Carousel (3 bedroom) @ $289 per night that has 2 bathrooms, huge living room and kitchen.
2 bedrooms with 2 double beds and one with a king. We could get 2 or 3 of these depending on how many want to come. And if people want to double up it would cost about $50 a night.
Lets book very soon and have a count of who is GOING!
cheers

Dave,
My wife and I will be there but we already have a place. Thanks just the same. We typically get into OC late Friday evening and are at the show early Saturday morning.
Keep in mind, if we do draw a crowd of ZR1s and want to be placed together in the show, we should pick a time and place to meet Saturday morning.

Looks like lodging is taken care of for everyone....
How about meeting up friday night for dinner / drinks?
Also we will need to meet up before the show Saturday (@ a parking lot) and then stay close getting in the parking lot. No moving once you are in "line".
Talk about meeting up Saturday night after the awards are given out (miss the banquet dinner) and have our own small group dinner.
What do you think?

Dave, work is going to keep us from getting into OC until late Friday or early Saturday. We won't be able to meet you guys for dinner Friday, sorry. Please let us know where you are going to meet on Saturday morning, and at what time.
I'm not sure where you are staying but one meeting place could be "Northside Park at the corner of 125th street and Jamaica Avenue. It's one block off Coastal Highway on the Bay side.
Another option would be to meet in front of the Ocean City Convention Center. It's at 4001 Coastal Highway. There is actually a road called Convention Center Road you turn down to get into the lot. The Convention Center is between 39th and 40th streets also on the bay side of Coastal Highway. Pick one (or pick somewhere else) and let me know.
Thanks,
Scott
