Call me crazy, but would it not be easier to make a template for tint that matches the Z cutout and use a few decals to copy the OE stamps, then simply apply them to a standard vette windshield vs spending $3K.

In most, if not all states it is illegal to tint the front windhield.

It is illegal but I had it done on my 92 in Florida.

It cost a pretty penny and even then the defroster /air vents eventually curled the film at the bottom.

If you ever got into an accident, they could probably say you were negligent and couldn't see very good because of your tint.

Not a smart thing to do.

I would think if you match the stock shade you are OK, I don't think we would draw any attention with our limited production.

I have managed claims for 15 years, and have never seen a windshield tint liability denial to date.....as stated with the stock tint you would be OK as it was used on the production vehicle, but good point about the peel.

Your visibility is affected by film differently the the film that is inside our windshield.

You are welcome to do it. I'm just saying God forbit you run over a pedestrian or something, they are not only going to send you to jail. They are going send 5 guys in their to gang bang you everyday :jawdrop:

If you want to take the risk go for it.:worship:

it would be nice to get PPG or LOF to run some C4 windshield with the ZR1 UV tint. I may have to try and research that to see if it would be possible or if they just say NO WAY !!!! :pray Please

You don't get sentenced to jail for an accident unless there is some Gross negligence(DUI, Excessive speed, etc), and if you hit a pedestrian because of window tint....I doubt you should on the road to begin with.

Point made on the tint, does not sound very durable.

I'm pretty sure by now LOF must be eaten up with guilt over our crappy windshields. I have no doubt a few more restless nights and they will be begging us to let them fix up our windshields with proper replacements.

If you put tint on your window and it contributed to a death or maiming you better bet the attorney is going to go after your ***.

Your visibility is impaired with tint. I had the lowest % tint and at night it definitely affected my vision. I especially noticed it when I took the tint back off. You have never had a pedestrian, dog or bicycle cross your path on a dimly lit road and almost hit them? I know I have and I don't have a chargeable accident on my record in about 15 years. (knock on wood)

I'm just telling you my experience first hand. It lasted about 6 months and then it peeled off. You could argue the tinter didn't do a good job but I used the best 3M tint and the rest of the car came out perfect and lasted for years. The constant blowing cold/hot is what I think made the tint curl.

How about just a $200 replacement windshield, installed.
Hmmm, none OE for $3000 or none OE for $200
Hmmm, $2800 for slight tint.
It's a no brainer for me.

FOR SALE my stock OE windshield, wonder what an OE windshield is worth.

Good thought Bob! :sign10:

I hate to say this but when mine gets sooo bad that I can't see thru it any longer....3k for a knock off NOS glass or 3k for coil overs?....hummmm....I'm just gonna go have a regular C4 one put in... She is officially a 'driver' now, just passed 33k with the Carlisle trip this yr and the driving season ain't over by a long shot.

Yeah, I can't imagine shelling out for an OEM one either, especially knowing it will also probably fail. I'm hoping mine just keeps trucking though, as I like how it looks.

Several years ago I attempted to tackle this issue with them, and the result sadly was "NO WAY". They explained how expensive it would be for them to do a run of windshields. That is not to mention the fact they did not want to tackle the liability issues of an American company manufacturing windshields that must meet todays safety standards. One of the gentleman I spoke with said the only hope was to try and get an overseas company to reproduce it, but they would never be given permission to use the LOF stamp.
So while I applaud anyone who attempts to secure parts for our community, the windshield dilemma is a tough nut to crack.

Maybe if they knew people were paying $3k it might change there mind.
Let's see 300 windshields $900,000
Kinda hard to swallow a company would turn down this kind of money.
