Thought I'd make a new thread and let everyone know how it went with the little problem I was having with the car.
First, the PROM was re-calibrated by Marc. The spark was reduced by 10% for 50% to 100% throttle, from 1400 to 3600 rpm. That cured the detonation problem :dancing It apparently had nothing to do with the code 42, since after installing the PROM it set almost immediately.....
Now, on the code 42, it doesnt seem so cut and dry....but it appears to be gone..... for now anyway. I followed along in the FSM as best as I could until I got down to the part where it says set the meter to the 1000 to 2000 ohm range..... my old Fluke doesnt seem to have this option! Anyway, almost to the bottom of the diagnostic tree, the choices were all pointing to wire connection problems. One of them was a faulty PIN connection at the ECM. I shined a flashlight down into the D1 connector into the CKT424 wire connector. It looked to me like it was spread open a little too much.... I stuck my paperclip in there to close the connecter up a bit, plugged everything back in, & it seems now its running normally and not setting a code anymore. =D>
I started the car everyday from Wednesday through Sunday & the code hasnt reset... maybe I got it licked!
