Heater core source...

After casting about a bit and coming up dry a couple places, the Napa store down the road came up with a new core for my 90 Z "next day". $50! Looks to be a good quality item.

I didn't see a ground wire attached to the (brass?) core. I assume there may be a metal frame securing it in place that has the necessary electrical connection, no?

why would there be an electrical connection to it?

there was not that on my 89 when I did it

Some vehicles do have the core grounded to the frame; an S-10 PU I replaced the core on a couple years ago had a "Caution" note in the box w/ the new core - specifically stating the importance of grounding the core to prevent "premature core failure..."

Dissimilar metals in an "ionizing" solution will result in a "wet cell" battery. One metal becomes the doner (sp?) and the other the receiver; the key being the difference in potential in the ionizing solution. Shorting the core to the frame removes that electrical potential difference, which made sense to me (at the time). Considering the relative lack of metal in the Corvettes, it seemed to me that a ground wire would play a part in the heater core; either attached to the core, or perhaps to a metal frame securing the core in place.

I don't think it will hurt to run a wire, in any case. (I don't like to tear dashes apart to change heater cores...Stupid, stupid design:mad: !!!)
