Here's a data point that might be of interest to some. I took my Z for Maryland Emissions Certification today. The results were as follows:
Hydrocarbons (HC) Carbon Monoxide (CO)
MD State Standard: 220 PPM 1.20 PCT
Inspection Reading: 121 PPM .00 PCT
My car has new injectors, stock thermostat, wires and coil packs; Watson headers (with stock air pump and tubes intack), RT bullet cats, Corsa exhaust, Marc Haibeck's top end package, and a dyno tune. I also kept my stock dual mass flywheel.
The car makes 420rwhp and 370 ftlbs of torque at 5200 RPM.

Great to hear you got the Z past the MD Smog Nazis with margin to spare.
Did they give it thorough visual inspection checking to make sure all the emission equipment was still installed?
Also, fill us in on how the Z runs now since you got it back from Marc's shop. 420 hp at he wheels is most impressive. How does it register on the SOTHP dyno compared to before you sent it out west? Inquiring minds just have to know.

that seems really low for peak power to me. epically with headers and top end work

Jag,
They crawled all over it. It was hard to tell if they were looking for something to fail it or if they just liked the car. I'm thinking both. They looked under the car for cats with mirrors and could clearly see the headers. They checked the gas tank filler tube and popped the hood. It wasn't until they popped the hood did I get a smile out of them.
As far as the SOTP dyno, the before/after rwhp delta was a plus 50 hp. Keep in mind my before included headers so the 50 hp is top end machine work. The good news is I could clearly feel 50 rwhp. The bad news is you get used to it pretty quickly. The big SOTPs difference is torque. It is much stronger from the time you let the clutch out until you let off the gas.
The bottom line is I got Marc's 500 hp top-end package without the Fidanza flywheel. This kind of performance from 350 naturally aspirated cubes is pretty impressive. I'm very pleased.

Scott, sounds great! So the 50hp is only on the butt dyno? You don't know what it was making before he worked on it? I was curious since you had that Extrude Hone work done to it.
However, your emissions results don't give me confidence... The VA standard is closer to 40-55 PPM for HC's @ 15/25mph. Hopefully my car will come in under that, but we'll see I guess.

The 50hp was the result of Marc's work. I was pulling a bit more than 370 rwhp before taking it to Chicago. At that time I was stock with the Watson headers, B&B Triflow exhaust, and SW X-pipe.
You saw the Extrude Hone work when we changed out my injectors. It didn't appear to have moved much metal.
I probably should have driven the car farther and harder prior to the test. I pulled it out of the garage after sitting for a week, drove about 8 miles, and had it tested. I too would have liked to have seen lower HC numbers but hey, I'll take it.

Congratulations. Nice numbers.
I am surprised to hear that they did visual inspection under your car and under the hood. They have never done that up here in Carroll County. It is interesting that they inspected but didn't notice the missing parts.
Did you get the top end powder coated while it was apart?
It is good to hear you are pleased with the result.

that seems really low for peak power to me. epically with headers and top end work kevin , his car has really good power for ported injector housings and plenum , headers and exhaust, it might bre a little low if the heads are ported but i dont think he had the heads done . pete has the highest fully ported stk block lt5 i believe his makes 450 or there abouts . mine @ 418.2 and 381 tq was the second highest corey henderson has ever done . know to save money for the heads . that would make her d:mrgreen: one

Scott, the 370whp was at Tony's though, right? On the Superflow? Actually I thought you'd pulled more power than me at Tony's. My car did 370whp as well at Tony's (385 at Marc's). I thought your car felt noticeably stronger on the street, but maybe it's just because I was in the passenger seat.
Anyway, 420whp is awesome, especially without the flywheel being done (and without having a bunch of resonance!)
Since we're talking dyno's now (sorry for the hijack though), you had alluded to comparing the B&B w/ x-pipe to the Corsa's you now have, saying the Corsa's made more power. Did you have Marc dyno it prior to the exhaust swap?
I'm sure driving it harder prior to the test would help. I still have about 9 months or so before I've got to take mine, but hopefully it'll sneak in under the limit.

Jon (or whatever), I think it is pretty clear that the numbers from Cory's dyno are not directly comparable to numbers from other ones. I certainly don't mean this as a slight to Cory, as he seems like a stand-up guy and very friendly.
But either his dyno reads higher than most, or he miraculously has only worked on the "factory freak" cars that make crazy power from stock heads.

Simple explanation: We've got better air and more of it here in TX.

Having spent a good deal of time at Southwest Research in San Antonio over the past 3.5 years I have to agree.

Yes and Yes. My numbers might have been higher but I can't find the dyno sheet from Tony's. I plan to get a copy from Tony and when I get around to it I'd like to run it on Tony's dyno again.

I got my information from Marc Haibeck. He is fairly adamant about his experience with B&B vs Corsa. Who am I to disagree? Marc pulled the exhaust and headers, removed the engine, performed his magic, and installed the headers and Corsa. I wanted him to dyno it before he started but we got our wires crossed. I agree it would have been good info but it would have been fairly expensive to have Marc re-install the B&B after he completed the engine work and dyno the car; and, then remove the B&B, install the Corsa and dyno it again.

Thanks Jim. I was not surprised by the visual. They have what looks like a cane with a slanted mirror attached to the bottom they use to look for cats on all cars at the Gaithersburg emissions station. I was surprised by them asking to inspect the engine. I have only seen them ask someone to pull over to the stations supervisor office and inspect the engine one other time.
Yes, the engine was painted.

They must have picked you out for inspection because of the "I just got my top end done" perma-grin you had.

Thought I would update this thread when my emissions test came up. Here were my results today.
Hydrocarbons (HC) Carbon Monoxide (CO)
MD State Standard: 220 PPM 1.20 PCT
Inspection Reading: 37 PPM 0.21 PCT
Glad the car passed. Though my car is about 98% stock.
Several guys came out for a look. They were worried it would scrape going over the rollers. They only made me do the idle test and didn't pop the hood or otherwise inspect the car in any way. Must have been blinded by the shine. ;-)
Cheers, Keith

Keith,
Those are great numbers! The LT5 is a civilized performance machine.

Guys 420 sounds good.
Minus 10 rwhp & rwtq for stock flywheel.
Minus another 8-10 rwhp for CATS.
Minus some for using 2 1/2" exhaust(ZR-1 stock 2 7/8") ,remember new C6 ZO6's make 450rwhp stock has 3" exhaust from the factory.
New B&B's are very restricted people have complained so much about the rasonance now my Cadi's stock exhaust will outflow B&B's
Your Z is withen the norm.
Pete
