Hey guys, I've been lurking here for a while. I just saw that GM posted a video of the ZR-1 doing it's record lap at the 'Ring.

So awesome. So smooth. I'll have to sell a kidney to get myself a ZR1.
Wholey Moley :jawdrop: :jawdrop: :jawdrop:
The car is unreal !! The driver isn't bad either.

Holy sh##t!
BTW, you just can't casually "browse" the GT-R forum. You need to sign up. I was looking for any reaction to the ZR-1 video.
Of course the comeback is going to be that the GT-R competes with the Z06 for the money.

Interesting on the final stretch the car is not being pushed very hard as he stays in the 170 range. Also it seems like it is plagued with the crappy gearing ratio on the top end like the Z06 is. Just doesn't have the pull in 5th.

It was an engineer driving. The car has much more left in it.

Kevin,
Pretty much "in your face" move by Chevrolet. A bit more left in terms of the config Nissan used for the GT-R.

WOW! That sucker is fast. Great acceleration and braking and an engineer driving. If I show that to the wife I know she would not let me get one (as if I could afford it.) She puckers up at 100 much less 170.:worship:

What a Machine and driver combination. Put on a different set of tires and I could do that !!! I would say that they were sand bagging a bit at the end. When you watch the RPM's and his driving style - It was a Bit conservative - So the question is - What will it really do ??? Will we ever find out - Or will we have to wait the 18 yrs - Untill Hans finally get one ??? But then by that time he will be too OLD to show us what it could really do - Sorry Hans !! :sleepy1:

Let's see... 18yrs... that would make me 71:jawdrop:, I'm thinking Paul Newman was still fast at 71, I'm willing to give as shot. I'll come over to the home and pick you up for a ride, Don.

Well hey guys, in 18 years when I get one of these ZR1s too, I'll only be 44, so maybe I could give it a shot as well!
BTW... Jesus you guys are a bunch of old farts on this site!
On another note, I just got a new job in downtown Chicago that pays a LOT better. So, new ZR-1 HERE I COME!

I see what Jeff is saying. What is the top speed on that back straight in a production car? Do people hit 200 there routinely? It seems like there is room seeing how you start that run at around 100 mph.
On the back straight at 176 mph and 6300 rpm he shifts and drops it to 5200 and the thing ran out of something I guess.
What's the redline? Is it capable of 200 mph out of the box.
I love the first comment at the bottom.
Rick =)

Rumor is there was a strong head wind. And most people don't realize that you are heading up a incline about half of the final straight.
The other thing is Jim Mero is not a employed as a driver. He is a development engineer. Even though he exhibited some good skills, you will probably see Jan in the car making a true time attack.

I like how he made those tire bark and correct on the short stabbs to the corners. Nice skills

I'm kind of surprised that they didn't use a higher profile driver... I guess that must be yet another "in your face" move to Nissan.
I just can't wait to see Top Gear or some of the magazines do a real third party comparison with straight stock cars as opposed to sweetened cars like Nissan had with its run...
