Rick, has Pat kicked you out of the house and into the garage?
Looks great!

Holy smokes that is sooo clean!:jawdrop: =D>
Please may I ask how do you get the plastic wheel well liners to look soooo good? Mine are all rough, like they've been sand blasted, so they hold the dirt and then when I wash'em they just look dull.....

Wow. Nice. After two days at VIR and and nearly 600 road miles, mine doesn't look very good right now!

Thank you guys for the compliments!
Jeff, I wish Pat would kick me out to the garage...;) She's pretty good in that way, she knows I like spending time in the garage, and if I'm real nice she'll bring me lunch :D
The fender wells were fun to tackle, when I bought the car with 42k I was ready to buy all new plastic, but thought I should try some sort of resto first. Took them off, scrapped the tar globs off with a plastic putty knife. Cleaned them with lacquer thinner and 409. Now I had clean pitted and stripped fender wells...yuk. I wet sanded them 360-400-600 and then treated them with my favorite plastic treatment. Good stuff, not too shiny and not sticky at all and leaves the plastic looking dark, rich and kind of natural.
Thanks again you guys!
Happy 4th to you all :-)

Fantastic work 4DSZR1!!
What did you use to brighten up the aluminum suspension pieces?

What about the springs? How do you get them so clean...I always heard to never put anything on them because they can be ruined by cleaners. I guess steel wool for the aluminum parts right?

And the engine? I'm afraid to touch mine. It's not bad, but not that spotless!

The springs are kind of easy easy too.... I clean them with a wrung out old microfiber towel. On the aluminium I like to use Nevr Dull.

I like it because it doesn't wear down or round off the details like a courser compound might. Its messy and will make your hands black so I use lots of cheap Walgreens latex gloves.
The engine is tougher, I'm careful and when I first detailed it I used a lot paint thinner and q-tips in the hard to get to areas. On the large painted areas I use detail spray and some times top get rid of the splotches I used cleaner wax. I know it turns the P/C green/grey but I use it sparingly and want to have the top end done by Jeff F some time in future. I'm happy (generally) with how it looks....And very happy with how it runs!!!! :):)

Rick,
Your car looks stunning. It's even nicer in person folks. I just got a 25k mile red car that needs a lot of TLC. I am working on getting it ready for the PNW Gathering and really use your car and a couple techniques/products you have recommended to get it in shape.
Nice job, looking forward to PNW in few weeks.

Hey thanks Rick for the hints on the fender liners!
Wet sanding is the only thing I haven't tried......don't know why I was afraid to do that:icon_scra ........mine I try to keep clean but they don't stay as black looking as yours for very long...
I just gotta compliment ya again on the condition of your car:thumbsup:
I can't believe that the motor hasn't been done by Jeff yet!:jawdrop:
Looks great, Rick; it looked great before but now its amazing! I'll never get to that level of detail....
