You remove the "gill" panel from the car. There are like 2-3 screws on top, and then you need a thin wrench to slide between the bottom and the rocker to loosen two screws under there.

Three T30 screws along the leading edge of the gill panel, one 10mm bolt at the back of the panel by the firewall. The one 10mm bolt that does not need to come out all the way. You might have to remove the 2 T15 screws on the rocker molding to get at it.

And of course the battery lock down bolt.

Life is not that difficult - you do not have to remove the panel.
Simply remove the three Torx screws at the front and the one 10mm screw at the top right hand side. The panel flexes enough so that you can lift the battery out at an angle.

I guess this is what the guy at the Corvette wrecking yard meant by people always breaking the driver side panel. It doesnt flex that that much, take it off.If you can find a thin 10MM wrench you can get the bottom bolt loose, you have to really look for it in between the fender panel and rocker panel.

It's not hard to remove it and replace it. I don't think I'd want to try to flex the thing either.
