Count Leslie and I in.

Also, you all know the parking at Tuscarora is pretty crappy, right? It's a very small lot and usually very crowded. I believe there's a park & ride nearby that on a Sunday should be fairly empty.

also just fyi, that parking lot next door is for the whole shopping area there. It's pretty full during the week, I don't know about on the weekend. But right across Loudoun St. from there is a parking garage for the county gov't. It's free on weekends to use. We can see how things look though, just wanted to make you aware of other options.

ZR1Vette
06-27-2008, 05:06 PM
Options are good...spoke to restaurant staff about parking and they said on a Sunday at the time we are arriving lot would be fine...and if not then fall back to the other parking lot...
Thanks

Well damn... National Weather update is thunder storms Sunday in the a.m. and significant ones in the Leesburg area at 11 thru 1 pm. and then again in the later afternoon. I guess I could not have come up with a better day  for doing this. At this point looks like we are heading towards to no go  for this event. I will keeping looking at the weathe maps but really does not look promising

Very much enjoyed seeing every one! Don... Peg....oops the aged brain cell again :-D .... Meg was delightful company and thanks for you two stopping by. Glenn...impressive... orders a Z two years before they came out and still owns the original one he purchased in 1990 and he tracks it.

Working details for next GTG... will throw out a few options

Sorry I missed you guys, but I was busy at VIR. What a great couple of super track days. Now I have a much better idea of what our cars can do. What do you think of the new look of my car? I bought a set of A-molds for my track tires and had them powder-coated black. Also added the black hash stripes. Makes the car faster you know...ha. See you guys next time.

Yeah Keith, so how was the class? Would you recommend it?

How did the car perform?

How many sets of brake pads did you go through !?!

RedSled
07-04-2008, 09:22 AM
I know about the painters tape. I looked like a low-rent cousin out there, but it did a nice job of keeping debris off the paint. Very few C4s there in a sea of C5s and C6s. Just a few "old" ZR-1s and GM brought 5 new ZR1s. I could bore you with details for an hour, but the short version...the car ran great; pads survived even for the drive home; NCM HPDE was VERY well run and worth every penny; C4 ZR-1 is a very competitive platform (hey, I was a rookie, but the car held its own against newer, higher hp cars). I felt I could be competitive in all sections of the track except the main straight. It was only my second time on a track - first in my Corvette. Big leaning experience. There was no doubt though, if 500hp C6 ZO6 wanted to pass me on the long straight, he could and I was happy to wave 'em by. Same with those darn 600+ hp ZR1s. Wow...they scoot! But for a stock 375hp 1990 ZR-1, I thought the car was awesome. IF I did this more often, I would upgrade the brakes. I could tell though, as I got more experience, I was getting easier on the brakes. Great fun guys!

Ugh... However, other than that it looks like you had a blast! I'd love to drive VIR some day, it seems like such a scenic place. Good to hear the 'Z represented itself well.

Any pictures of the ZR1's running?

HIZNHRZ
07-04-2008, 12:28 PM
Sorry to hear about the windshield but glad to hear the car performed well. I'll bet it was a real blast. I'm not a good enough driver to say conclusively that the brakes are the weak link on the track but I've lived the problem. I thought about a brake upgrade when I had the car in Chicago but it seemed any type of significant improvement would have been big bucks.

How did a stock ZR-1 do in the straignts against C5 and C6's (non ZO6 and ZR1s)?

RedSled
07-04-2008, 01:36 PM
Depending on my lines and speed, I had no problem passing C5, C5 ZO6s and straight C6s. My instructor is probably still laughing - he had me running a very good line through turns 3,4,5 and out to the short uphill straight beginning with turn 6. I could carry good momentum through there, made several good passes including C6 ZO6s a couple times(!) and believe it or not one new ZR1. (he MUST have been on a warm up lap or missed a shift, but hey, I'll take it. We had a good laugh about it, because he blew by me at probably 160 on the main straight.) Main thing is, you never what the other driver might be doing. Learning a new line or watching his temp gauge. You give and take. They do a great job of stressing safety. There is no shame in getting passed and letting people by. It is a bit overwhelming at times. Things happen fast. I had my own "agricultural moment" on turn 14. The Red Sled saw grass, but we survived.

Switching gears a bit... is the email listing we talked about at the GTG up and running??

I sent an eMail to all the addresses that I got at the GTG (plus a few other local ZR-1 guys). The email included all the addresses. If anyone who was there didn't get it, PM me.

I was not setting up a ListServe. I propose that event anouncements be made on the forum and details be handled using eMail. I will keep the master list of interested participants up to date.

It may be easier for anyone who wants to send an eMail to all parties to send it to me and I will forward it to the list. But, we can do it any way you want.

Jim
