Headliner Droop

All three of my C4's have this typical problem. I was thinking of putting a leather headliner in my 94 Z. Has anyone else tried to put it a leather headliner?:wave:

Just had my solid top restored (scratch in paint and the liner droop)... after seeing the work done there should really be no problem installing a leather liner with two suggestions>>> purchase a new liner pad and have a professional leather worker attach to pad... you can install the leather lined pad easily with heat resistant adhesive. If you do not know of a leather person I have someone who does amazing leather work (and a WIDE range of leather colors) on cars.

Ive seen it done in leather before but what the installer did was seam an "X" into the headliner material to make sure it doesnt droop. Just a thought. GC

I did the headliner for my '90 and removed the old myself so that I knew the old and all of the adhesive was removed. I had the new done with a remnant that the trimmer had in his shop from a higher ended import and had him use a pad for it that was somewhat "more substantial/firmer" than the original.
This is a job that is easily accomplished yourself but if you let the trimmer use his remnants, the pad he's sure to have and just request something "substantial" I believe you would be happier with the end product. The headliner is not really visible or noticeable until it "droops"! I think that's why it's "low sheen" fabric. With the correct adhesive and a good install I doubt you need any stitching.
If you start subbing leather etc. it would seem you just draw attention to damned frame that surrounds the liner!

I've done this myself as well on my '87. I also just got some remnant from a shop, I think for the fabric and 3M adhesive I spent about $10 total. It's a fairly easy job, just take your time. Be careful not to damage the pad on the roof panel. I rolled all the old foam off by hand. It was a little time consuming, but I didn't damage the pad that way. I also used the old fabric as a template to cut the new piece, just cut a little extra all the way around. You can trim it later to fit, and you can tuck in about 1/2" or so (maybe more) of extra around the edge.
