View Full Version : My tuning issues

Just like =Jeff=, I decided to do a scan on my motor the other day trying to tweak and optimize tthe tune now that I'm back from BG. Prior to going, BLMs were in the 124-132 range depending. Idle was fine.
But with the latest scans, idle BLM is sitting at 115 both sides and INT is at 100. ECM is adding fuel although I have taken fuel out of the VE tables.
Motor transitions smoothly from Open to Closed loop. Idles at 725-750rpm.
And it doesn't smell rich once warmed up. Idle injector PW seems a bit high at 4ms. As I said in a previous post, Left side 02 appears a bit lazier than right but they track pretty closely to each other. No codes although I did have a VAL 66 which is a shorted or shunted VALET switch code. However as of last scan, that did not appear.
I'm thinking some kind of exhaust leak particulalrly given that the low BLMs are in the lower MAP region where vacuum is high and would suck in fresh air. That would explain why motor runs better than scan would indicate. Whatever it is appears to affect both sides equally and I am not sure where an exhaust leak could happen which would affect both sides.

Something else I noticed today is that it did take a while for the motor to go into Closed Loop. Coolant Temp got high enough for fans to come on but still no C/L. Once in C/L, BLM and INT started to fall.

Brad,
I don't think that's it. Its been pretty consistent with the last several scans. Right now I'm investigating a leak at the header collector. The motor doesn't surge, its idling nicely, so that tells me whatever is causing the ECM to see a lean condition is coming after the intake side. Its not turning on/off like a light switch.

Got it. Bad bin file. I'll need to retrace my steps and see where it went wrong. I was able to pick a bin I knew had worked and downloaded to the Ostrich. Bingo! BLMs and INT in line. Now I'll transfer my other changes to this bin and move on. Time to scan again. ;)

Brad,
Best time there was a 12.8@ 115.5. 60' was a pitiful 2.3.

Congratz! I guess that is what they sometimes call "painting yourself in a corner", huh? BTDT!
I've been following (your saga) along and am happy fer ya! I'm not taking my Z down this summer (not planning to that is) - gonna enjoy it first. Then this winter, perhaps I can git bizzy porting, etc. Then I'd like to get one of those "big birds" and pick your brain a bit and learn some more about these lil LT5s!
Good job Dom! See ya at St Charles/Pheasant Run, if not before!
