OK...it's official. There will be a Gathering West in Las Vegas! WooHoo!

26-28 September 2008, Las Vegas, NV

Events will include:

26 Sep - Drag Racing at LVMS

27 Sep - Mile Run at Nellis AFB

28 Sep - AutoCross at Nellis AFB

Also included will be two "spirited" cruises...once again through the Valley of Fire and another TBD (If you have an idea about where we should cruise to...speak up!)

If there is interest...we can do Karting one evening...or a Private Poker Party (just for us). I wanna know if there's interest in this stuff.

If time permits...maybe we can fit a Poker Run in...

Many nice dinners and plently of time to chat:handshak: :blahblah: and a few short technical discussions:blahblah: .

An idea I had was to "give away" (via free drawings/raffles) some ZR-1 stuff...any ideas about what you'd like to see as prizes?

Ron Hanselman and I are heading up this effort and if you have some specific input...tell us!

OK Y'ALL GIVE US YOUR INPUT! We'll make it a Gathering to Remember!

Hey, I'd be willing to get the poker run together.

If Jeff doesn't have my parts done before then, we could have a technical gathering to install them!

FYI, last time I cruised through Red Rock Canyon, there were LOTS of park police to pull over vehicles. Not advised to cruise there.

Ken let's let some of the members weigh in and see if there is enough interest in the Poker Run. I am in if we have it. I like them.

I alos like the idea of our own private poker party...that would be fun!:-D

Uly and Ron,

The dates and events sound great to me, especially the Mile Shootout on a Sat as some folks will have to hit the road on Sunday. Will MKM be putting on the Shootout and will the safety requirements be ironed out soon as possible, like two months prior?

Thanks to both of you for stepping up to the plate.

I missed the first 2 so I better commit to this one. It sounds like I really did miss a good time. I make it to Las Vegas about 3 times a year to check on the in laws who are in their 80s. I do my Carlos the gardner impersonation and some chores around the house. Since it's a quick trip, we don't have time to hit the strip or go out... so sad. I will have to be very specific regarding the purpose of this trip. I suspect my wife will want to spend time with her folks and I'll get to play.

Gee, what could we have as prizes? I guess we could start by ruling out a Raptor TT upgrade due to loss of interest, too fast, just scare people away.:dontknow:

Do they make stretch go carts?

No, but they make wide body for some of us.

I'm also offering to help with planning/organizing the events.
I enjoy hearing an expert or two or three talk on our cars.
How 'bout some tech speakers?

We need to "Hammer" out the safety requirements for the mile shoot-out early on. It is the big draw and evidently the stumbling block last time.

Our local club Hot Nevada Vettes has an event called Super run that weekend. It is a full weekend event with over 1400 cars, live music and entertainment. We are also setting up corvette only car show and rallyes that you could also do while in town.
This event is a blast! Check details here:

Hello Ron and Uly, Want to repeat whats been asked in the last few days and weeks, is the Mile Shootout going to happen on the dates given?? It would be in everyones interest to be able to make some plans. Sorry Mikko, I won't drive the 650-700 miles to be in a car show, however the shootout gets my attention.

Thanks,
Jerry

That is understandable.
I have already signed up for the local event, so I'm not sure how much time I will have left to do the zr1 events...

Colton is going to pick up the slack with Ron to get this event rolling. The mile run and all of the other stuff I mentioned should be no problem whatsoever. I just love gettin together with you guys and havin a good time...the "events" are second to me...Craig (SledUtah) and I get together for beers when we can...and ZR1Nut (Doug) is always available...

We(Colton and I) have discussed having this event here in SLC in the future. We have a great track out at Miller Motorsports Park and drag racing at Rocky Mountain Raceway...and the Karts out at Miller Motorsports Park are awesome too...we even have a great indoor (kart) track if the weather doesn't cooperate. We could have some awesome cruises around here too.

SLC sounds like a good idea to me. Moving the Gathering West around would be fun. Like the Big Sky Corvette Meet. It is in a different town in Montana each year. We could have the Western US.

Uly,

If the event is a go, how about getting it posted/listed on the ZR-1 Net home page? As for Salt Lake City, let's do it, what's the date? What ever is the "the place" we need time to make plans and to get a loan throught the Credit Union for fuel!

Have the rules for the mile shootout been posted? Maybe I missed them with all the fun in Portland last weekend.

Kind of curious if we need to fill out registration early to be allowed on Nellis.

Thanks for putting all this together....its a big deal, no doubt.

Can't believe there's no chatter on this. I can't make it but for cryin' out loud where's the chatter. No one is going? There is no posts on the other sites either. These Corvette forums should be loaded in my opinion. but then, that's my opinion.

Maybe things will be better next year and I can go.

Thanks Phil and I to went to MKM and yes indeed it's on Sat. Someone asked about the "rules", you can get those and alot more at www.openroadracing.com. At the home page look for the Icon at the bottom of the page for the Nellis AFB Las Vegas event and click on that icon. The page that comes up in the upper right corner of the page there are links to Rules, Forms, Online Payment and Flyer. If your going you need to get on with filling out the forms and getting them mailed or faxed as they need to be there by the 17th.

John I was hoping you would be there; sell one of those cars quickly!
