After 2 yrs finally stumbled up the "perfect road", only had to drive 70 miles or so to find it. Long story short, myself in the 90 and a friend on his moddded R1 in front of me..
He backed off at 15x-ish due to some winds and was surprised to see the Z still in his sights.
Didnt feel a thing, car felt fantastic at that speed, coulda stayed there all day. Pulls as hard at 120 as it does at 80
Im hooked :D

There is no road in Alaska I would take any car to 150. There are some pretty long straight streches, but rough terrain on either side, not smooth enough, and lots of wild animals running around even in the cities. You hit a moose even at seventy and you are in serious trouble. A wolf at 100 toast! I'll keep it on the track or Drag Strip. No place here for that speed on the track either. I have driven a dragster 198.97 mph in 7.34 sec. 1/4 mile though. That was in the early 70's. They now do much better than that with Pro Stock! :D

145, limited by "track" conditions, and possible road force balancing anomalies.
Where does one get tires road force balanced and just plain balanced(!) for "life to begin" (in the Chicagoland area)?? (Discount Tire sold me my GY F1/D3s, but gives me the "deer in the headlights" look when I ask them about RFBing.)

"just" ~162mph at the Nellis Mile Shootout in Las Vegas.
Very smooth and felt safe with all the open room around me.
Hum, to stir up the pot, and talking about the Mile Shootout...
We are in the talking stages of another ZR-1 Gathering West.
Ron H. said there will be a mile shootout at Nellis AFB
the last weekend of Sept, 2008. It is a hoot! We would like
to organize a ZR-1 gathering around this event.
We realize that we have to sort out the safety requirements
first and earlier. But we also need attendance commitments
to make this worthwhile (and fun!).
We will keep you posted.

Rubbish, my first speeding ticket was on the Seward Highway just past the O'Malley exit. I was doing 116 in a 55. I've also been in a ZR-1 doing 140 on that road. It's what gave me the ZR-1 bug. :dancing

not nearly as fast as most of my bros!
To tell the truth....I don't remember what the speedo was saying, just the tach .....tach in 4th gear hit 4600rpms...fastest I've ever been, or at least it seemed like it. :o
I gotta say the car has more that me! I know that at 120 it feels like you could get out & run faster. On a good road this car is decidedly uneventful...no fuss at all.

Read my post again... I said there is no road in Alaska "I" would drive a car at 150. I didn't say that there aren't people dumb enough to do it. :) I used to be, I drove my '68 Z28 Camaro at 140 along Portage Flats in 1974. I was 26 then. I know better now. :D Oh yeah, I've never gotten a speeding ticket. =D>

as a lot of you know from following my post's/replies, out of my Zee's, i've driven them a total of about 250 miles or so. not each, combined milage. pretty sad i know. had to get the garage finished, remember? the 93 & 95 i haven't got up to speed at all. i had my 90, when i first got it, up to 154:eusa_shhh going up an incline on a curve but i saw a few cars up ahead i was catching way too fast so i thought better of that & got off her. felt good up till then.

Just nudged 180mph in Germany a couple of years back. My wife had the video running at times (with her usual steady hand;)) Quite loud in the car at those speeds as you can tell in the video when we are yelling at each other to get heard. Video is here if you are interested - http://corvetteclips.co.uk/VideoClips.html Ther are some others there as well.
I have had the car in the 160's a few times. The roads in the uk are now so poorly maintained and crowded that those kind of speeds are getting very risky. Add to that anything over 100 is a at least a ban and even jail its alos getting very risky. still goto Germant at least once a year though:)
Intrestingly that 180 run was done in my car pre- 368 and the LT5 was sick. It had been using more oil than usual and had what sounded like a noisy lifter. As it turned out when Marc stripped it it looked like it had ingested a screw and eaten it in no.8!! So with missing on No8 it still pulled up to 180mph!!!

I have only had mine for a couple of weeks now, I upgraded from 87 to a 91 ZR1. I must say it is quite a big difference. But that aside I have had only one opportunity to test my metal. When I saw 100 in 3rd in a very few seconds my heart was pounding and I backed off. Maybe it was the traffic or maybe my nerves. Either way it felt like warp speed from my seat. By the way my brother was in the passenger seat. He said that after that sprint he was no longer interested in driving it as he would want one and its not in his cards for now. He said he would be satisfied with riding shotgun for now. It was a blast :D .

Not too long after I got the car back from Exotic Muscle..i say about 600 miles after the engine work, me and a friend with his 996 TT porsche race on I-5 to L.A at 12 am on a long strech about 2 miles. We got up to 155+ it was kinda scary and stupid, but it was only a brief run there was no car on the highway at that hour. We both stayed at that speed for only 15 second or so then backed off. It was really fun. :)

If you click the link I included, you can click around for info on it. But basically it means that the tire is subjected to a compression force while being spun, to simulate how the tire will perform on the road. A regular balance, the wheel and tire are just spun with no sidewall compression, etc.
A road force balance just kicks it up another notch, and can compensate some for sidewall variations, etc. Though much of it probably depends on the guy using the balancer (much like any tool).

I've had "The Beast" up to 120mph with my brother-in-law on board (had to show him that it had the same kind of poop as his 2007 Shelby Mustang GT500!). After slowing down and pulling off on a side road to turn around a 'county mountie' comes by. That was a little too close for comfort.
On the road trip last summer enjoyed scooting across Nevada on back roads with the cruise set at 100mph. Outside temperature was 105 degrees but we were comfy inside with the A/C on (and still getting 20mpg according to the instant mileage display).
