Hi all

I'm quite new here on this forum, so let's introduce myself.....

My name is Michel van Wessel, 33 years old and I live in the Netherlands. I am together with Miranda and we have one son, Chevano. Another baby will be born this summer. And, very important off course, I just love Corvettes!!! That's the reason why I have 3 Corvettes, a 1978 Pace Car, a 1980 LG4 (California) and a 1990 Export model. All of them are coupés.

Reason to join the ZR1 forum is this: I have recently found a 1990 ZR1 here in the Netherlands for a very reasonable price and I try to gather information about it, because I can't get some things together...I checked the entire VIN code with my Blackbook and that all seems to be matching, but the Dutch license plate is not correct at all. It says that the car came here in 1998 officially, but the plate itself says it's from 1994 (we can easily see that here, not like in the US).

Because of that I searched the internet and I found out that the car was involved in an accident with a truck back in 2001 (3-2001)

3/01
1990
Black/Black
1G1YZ23J3L5801109
ZR was totaled with 60K miles, hit by truck, sold and being rebuilt.

So what I really would like to know is, where did this happen, in the US or here in the Netherlands? And can someone tell me when the car came to the Netherlands (for I can't find it at all)? And if maybe someone might know the previous owner and what happened with the car...please let me know. Let's say that every additional information about this ZR1 is more than welcome!!! Not only for me (if the car is repaired professionally I'll consider buying the car), but also to warn other people.

ZR1:
VIN 1G1YZ23J3L5801109
Color: black, interior: black, wheels: black, transparant roof, 130000 km (81250 miles).

Thank you already for every information you have and I hope you all understand my (dutch) English!!!

Greetings from The Netherlands, STW

Michel van Wessel

Hello,

I just checked the Registry members list and there is no record there of a previous owner. That just means a previous owner didn't sign up.

Sorry, wish I could be of more help.

Thank you for your quick replies!!! Is there any possibility to check the VIN code in the US, just to see the history of the car, especially for accidents/crashes, mileage etc? And is it possible to see who has posted the specific information about the car on this site?

By the way, tomorrow I will have the ZR1 tested by a Corvette specialist, I wonder what he'll find out about the car. After that I hope to be a ZR1 owner too!!!!

Greetings

Michel

Welcome Michel. When you run the VIN on the Carfax site, this is what comes up. The problem is they want $25 to get a copy of the report. Perhaps someone on the forum has an "unlimited" account and could run it for you.

VIN 1G1YZ23J3L5801109
Year/Make/Model: 1990 CHEVROLET CORVETTE ZR-1
Body Style: COUPE
Engine Type: 5.7L V8 MPI DOHC 32V
Manufactured In: UNITED STATES
Search Results: 1 records found in our database What is a Record?
IMPORTANT! The 1 record on this 1990 CHEVROLET CORVETTE ZR-1 may confirm a clean title history or uncover potential problems. Find out by ordering the complete CARFAX Vehicle History Report.

For you to run the report go to:

http://www.carfax.com/cfm/general_check.cfm?partner=GCF_X&CMP=KNC-Google

The destructions are pretty self-explanatory from that point. Good luck on your detective work.

Welcome to the brotherhood! I can't help with your quest, beyond the Carfax suggestion already made. But, I hope it works out for you attaining a Z. I've driven many Vettes over the years, but this Z is truly the "King of the Hill" in my experience - including the C6!

How about some pictures of you Z and the area?

Hi guys

Got some news about the ZR1, I was planning buy.......

I didn't do it because I found out that the car was totaled in 2001. It had been hit by a truck in the rear. And the car had been assembled out of two ZR1's. Although the car looked very well, I hesitated to much, and thinking about driving such a car? What problems would I face in the future? Since the car was repaired, it has hardly ever seen the road again. And the license was suspended since. And unfortunately I was too late warning other people....The ZR1 has been sold to someone else.

But thank you anyway for your help, I'll try carfax for my other Vettes. It's always nice to know the history of them. Maybe it's better to buy a ZR1 in the US, I've seen some on this ZR1 site.....Maybe someone could recommend me one!!! For a fair price off course. I hope to drive a ZR1 once. Btw are there also people here driving 1970/1971 ZR1's??

See you

Greetings Michel

I would hope the accident showed up in Carfax, does anyone know if that's how it was uncovered?

Hi Michel-

As you now know, this forum is limited in the help it can offer. The big problem is no-one actually reads the original posts. As seen here most people think you already bought the car and are welcoming you to the forum, I appologise for them. Carfax is worthless, you cannot ever go by that. It was very wise of you to hold off until you found the answers, and to your credit you avoided a potential mess.

There are many of these cars for sale very cheap & with much lower miles, of course shipping them overseas is another expense. You did very well, just keep an eye open, I'm sure much better will come along...:D
