My clutch started slipping last weekend. 71,000 on the car and a stack of timeslips since I've had it in the last two years.

I talked with Marc H. and as far as the clutch goes for cars that are under 500 HP, he has used the Duralast Clutch from Autozone, Part No. NU0084, $258. He has had good luck with it and that's good enough for me. At least $50 cheaper than everyone else.

Do the Fidanza flywheel while you have it apart for the clutch work....you'll thank yourself later!:dancing

JeffVette will get one for you.
Tell him I sent ya.
You'll be wanting a throwout bearing and a pilot bushing too.

And you will want a set of C Beam plates too. I guarantee it.

I agree. Just did that on mine. Used an LT-1 Camaro Clutch with sprung hub. Can't tell the DM is gone. Motor sits there idling queitly with no gear rattle.

Ok, so far I've ordered a Duralast clutch from Autozone for $268.17 shipped, Part No. NU0084. This was based on what Marc Haibeck verified he has been using and has had great luck with. I'm up in the air on the Fidanza though as I have another $332 for installation of the clutch. Where is the best (i.e., cheapest) place to get the Fidanza? Also, what, if any special installation requirements are there for the Fidanza?
Thanks

Haven't done the Fadanza yet but I've read maybe pressure plate bolt length is a issue with Fadan, or new pressure plate attach holes being different thickness not sure what the issure is and I'm pretty sure the clutch sprung hub would help like xfire mentions.

Xfire,
Which particular clutch disc make and model did you use and did you also replace the pressure plate while at it?
I've been looking at several spring hub LT1 Camaro clutch discs and haven't decided on which one to go with when I install the Fidanza.
BTW I picked the Fidanza from Kurt White when he had them on sale for $275 a few months back.

I'm not sure there are different types of LT1 Camaro sprung hub disks. Mine is the stock one.
Its the one in this ad

I was lucky to find someone who sold JUST the disk. Just a bit more margin of safety even tho Haibeck says he uses the stock PP bolts. I used the stock PP. I did however use the SRP PP bolts and bought the ARP crank to FW bolts. Everybody wants to sell the PP as well. I paid $69 for the disk. Worked fne in my 84 when I did the ZF-6 TRANS-plant. You were lucky on the Fidanza, I paid $325 which was ok by me. Well worth it. What's amazing is that I get no gear rattle with the single mass FW at idle or anywhere else. Some slight noise when trans is warmed up.

until you fire it up and the car sounds like it has a nice rod knock

Kevin,

How much gear rattle you get has a lot to do with how well the calibration is dialed in. So there are ways to avoid or minimize the noise.

Xfire,
$69 is a great price.
Is that the price you got from Clutch City Online?
I could not find the cluth disc by itself on their web site.

No I found it on eBay. I was trying to find who the source was for it but I had bought it last year when I saw it anticipating the swap. I had a Fidanza in my 84 when I did the ZF TRANS-plant, and it really woke that motor up. No bog when you hit the gas.

Update.
Things didn't go so well. My installer put the clutch in and got everything back together. The car wouldn't move. It was running with the clutch out and you could go through all the gears. SO, they removed everything again and found the pressure plate (PP) was the wrong one. It was for an LT-1, not an LT-5, about a 1/4" narrower. That explains why it wouldn't move. Anyway, the local Autozone (AZ) ordered another NU0084 and the LUK 04-114 just in case the AZ one was wrong again. They came in today and now the right PP was in the new box. The AZ and the LUK both had the identical part number on the PP and both are Valeo bodies. We will be putting the AZ one in next week. Oh yeah, I also got a Fidanza on order, it goes in too.

Moral of this story is to compare the pressure plates before installation. It is obvious when you look at them side by side. My installer is not experienced with these cars or this would not have happened. It also would not have happened if there was a warning to use shorter bolts or the right PP was in the box. Autozone has already told me that they will probably be paying for the reinstallation.

I'll post again once this sucker is together again.

Good idea. You won't regret it. It's God's will that you have an aluminum FW.

One other thing. the Duralast clutches have a LIFETIME warranty on them.
