Looking for an "Ultra Performance Dry & Wet Tire" for Twisty Road Tours and highway trips.
Tire Rack (TR) Has only the following tires listed in stock or backorder:
1. Goodyear Eagle 1 GSD-3 (on back order ~may be available around 3 weeks) - Excellent Reviews wet & dry
Tire Rack Cost for set of 4 = $1004 before tax, S & H, mounting & balance

2. Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 -stock front size
-335/35 ZR17 oversize Rear's (this tire is 1/2" taller on the dia and 3/4"
wider in the width) and not gauranteed to fit by Tire Rack - in stock
This is the tire that many vette owners tell me is simply the best. Price is ~50% higher than the Goodyears. Set of 4 = $1462 before tax, S & H, etc

3. Sumitomo stock sizes $424 complete price just add monting and balance to it - and are in stock at TR - Reviews on these tires were generally good to excellent with a couple poor exceptions. Performance, especially for wet roads, is lower than Goodyears or Michelins (but can't quantify it)- Not too interested in these because I really don't want to compromise performance (especially wet) unless it is minimal.

Get the Goodyears if you can.

However many have heard that the 315/35/17 is no longer being made. Maybe Tire Rack has better info.

I would suggest the "best" you can afford. Goodyears

Aren't they really good enough on wet surfaces compared to Goodyears or Dunlops? Price is only $99 each in tirerack and they have them in stock, three times higher for the other brands! :jawdrop:

If you want wet and dry, my two cents is GS-D3's all the way. Wet weather performance is in my experience excellent. To be fair, I have zero experience with the other two tires.

Honestly I drive my car very carefully and rarely in wet surfaces. I'm still doing some research because I found a quite reliable European brand (Vredestein) that has this tire size too but they are difficult to find in my country and I'd get Eagles for a slightly lower price from the US even having to pay shipping costs.

Maybe the reason the Goodyears cost more is because they use more rubber! ;)

315 Sumitomo on the Left. 315 Goodyears on the Right.

Because they aren't as wide you see alot of FBody guys with the 315 Sumitomos on the rear.

They can get the Sumitomo to fit on a ten inch wide rim & it also takes less of the BFH mod on the inner fender.

I have the Goodyears on my stock rims and I bought Sumitomos for a recent track day weekend for my set of A-mold wheels. I couldn't find a full set of Goodyears and figured I would rather use the cheaper Sumis on the track. I have to say they held up really well considering the abuse I gave them.

according to my local tire guy, yokohama are still available...they have been good for me,but like a lot of guys here,i have limited experience with other brands, and cant compare...my only complaint is they tend to ''flatspot'' after sitting for awhile, and take forever to get back to round shape.

I hear you, also why the treadwear rating on the goodyears vs the Summos is different. Reminds me of that new Quiznos commerical if your going to pay 5 dollars for a sandwich shouldnt you get one with MO meat? lol

F1 GS-D3 = 280
SUMOs = 160

Has anyone been able to find Goodyear F1 GS-D3s in 315s? Like I said, when I considered an extra set, I couldn't get them.

Everyone tells me that the Goodyears are "back order" which I reckon is better than BF Goodrich saying "no longer in production" for their KDs in 315s.

After the pitiful Brickyard NASCAR race at Indy my bet is Goodyear has more on its mind than making 315s for the Beast.

Tires are pretty sketchy, I've made a few references to this in the past.

If you are only summer driving and no wet weather playing, look into a set of Kumho 700's.

There are plenty of options for 315's, problem is finding a matched set for the front to go with them.

I don't know this for a fact because I have not checked over at TireRack, but I did hear that they now have a "projected delivery" time on the 315 GS- D3's....that's an improvement over the "back ordered" posting that used to be next to them...

I have the Sumitomo's all the way around - I have had experience in a heavy down poor and rain all the way from Chicago to Bowling Green and Back. They work very well in the wet. They are quiet, ride nice and balanced out very nicely. I have absolutly no complaints. Would recommend them
