It looks like the whole tranny is dry with the exception of the rear portion of it. The leak doesnt seem to be coming from the top down or from the front to back. Its concentrated at the tail end. What would be the most probable thing to expect?
Its been doing it for a while cause the exhaust is stained bad. I sometimes smell oil burning in that area when stopped also. I want to change the oil in the trans and put on a nice exhaust and the leak has to be gone!

Hmmmm....maybe the rear seal or like mine i thought the rear seal was leaking and replaced it! After firing it up and driving i noticed the leak was back AGAIN. Put it back on the jack stands and saw a steady drip coming from the speed sensor also toward the rear of the zf.....I removed the 10mm bolt/bracket that holds it in place and the O-ring was bad! I replaced it with a blue neoprene gasket.......i think he crossed it over to a c5 style sensor and it worked!!!=D>

Two things. If it has redline in it, it will foam and flow out. Rear seal could be bad (it crosses over to a T400 rear seal) or as Ry said it could be the o-ring around the speedo gear. Spray the hell out of it to clean everything and then drive it for a day and re-inspect

So, it seems the fix will be fairly inexpensive......should I just replace the O-ring (pt#?) and the seal also? Is that TH400 Jeff?
I'm really suspecting the O-ring....its really wet there and very clean. I hope to have the exhaust off soon, so it looks like it will be easy to get to everything.....plus I got the Kwiklift in now!!! :dancing

Call Bill B on the seal. It's not sold separate through GM. As Ry said you should be able to match it up to something.
And yes a TH400

Both the O-ring and the rear seal are standard GM stuff. Take the O-ring and seal down to your local tranny shop. They will more then likely just give them to you.

You prolly already have one, but I found this piece at whiteracing(kurt) and it appears to be the blue neoprene piece unlike the black rubber oring I removed from mine. fyi...

Thaks Ry.....I opted to get the whole sensor from Bill B. He told me to look at it closely to determine weather or not it was the O ring or the shaft, or the crimped part that houses the electrical connector........well, it was pretty rusy & all discolored, so I couldnt make a good assesment.....so, I just bought the whole unit. $58. shipped...not too bad.

That's a good price on that unit! I'm starting to wonder about my rusty cover on mine....i removed it and tossed in the trash so hopefully it was just my oring or I maybe calling him aswell!
