Have 2 dynomax bullets and 2 dynomax super turbos on the car now, dual 3"s with no crossover. Resonance is unreal at most levels.
Been in a few non LT5 Vettes with elims and its loud but doesnt drone at all.
Was thinking about chucking the turbos in the trash as Im getting tired of the ricey big tips, leaving the bullets on and welding on some LT1 tips I have.
Feedback?

ron , i have accumed 4 different exhausts we could do a mix of any of them to get what you want .1) complete borla 2) desert deveoplement 3in . 3 flowmaster (the one that you heard ) 4 )dr gas spin tec that they built for me at their factory 5) complete stk 90 6) complete stk 91. 7) corsa thats on the snat 475 zr1 i just bought. so i think i have become neurotic about exhaust . just found out its worse than I thought . but we could try to get what your after let me know . are you going to keep the z. if not i may have a guy interested in it after riding in my new one .pm me maybe we can hook up .brad

Im just looking to make a change and try something I can do myself, wont cost me anything. Worst case scenario I dont like it and a system is in order eventually. Right now I dont want to pump $ into the car.
If your friend is serious give him my number, somewhere in the 17XXX would be the bottom otherwise it stays

I'd actually wondered if going to Super Turbos would remove some of the drone/vibration of my exhaust instead of the Ultraflows. Especially after hearing that's what Callaway used for the SN exhaust. However your description of your system makes me think it might not help.
I'd only call my resonance unreal very occassionally. So maybe you could try swapping the bullets out for a '93+ or LT1/4 resonator? You could probably pick one up for free.
You want noise Ron ? I can't quiet down the white car for s&it. S.O.B could get rid of any household pest by just pulling into the driveway.

i did this about a month ago and couldnt believe the diff . i had an old road sign and made a plate that bolted above the mufflers .i bent it down so so it came down to thebottem of the back of the mufflers .cut a Uso it went over the pipe i put 2 layers of dyna mat extreamliner that they use for the underside of the hood on the top of the piece i made . now i use the desert develpoment 3 in exhaust and have no resonance at all. credit goes to bfriend that owns his own sound engineering co in sanfracisco. they deal with quieting the sound from heating and airconditioning in skyscrapers. what he said is to get it (sound absorbed before it gets into the cabin of the car). the other thing he shared was to get the exhaust tips to end 2 in past the rear exhaust opening . all i can say it worked way better than i first thought it would .

I think its the 3' pipes that make it drone, think they are too big and the exhaust speed is slow. That, couple with no central resonator...
Brad no, that doesnt include the motor.

Had someone drive the car today and followed them, it definitely needs to be louder .Too quiet from behind, too loud inside.
Sounds good when the pedal is wacked open though . But not good enough:mrgreen:

you really ought to make a plate over the mufflers like i did .you will find most of the resonance comes from the back area . i used thermo tec on the plastic inner wheel wells and the dyna mat extreamliner on top of the shields i made . i used 2 layerson top of the shields . added 10 lbs max but you wont need excedrin to drive .if you have a fax number i could draw it up for you . sounds like you want to keep the car .good deal ,i told ya this car can cure the worst day

Hi Brad, could you please explain this a little further? Pics? It sounds like a great idea... did you add the mat right on the plastic innner fender wells?
Thanks

Did you steal a stop sign and put it on your car? :jawdrop:

Rick on the inner fender panels yes i id .i sat them in the sun and put the thermo tec on top. the sun helps the glue allready on the mat stick . on the shields is to have a buffer layer for sound control for the top and back of the muffler with the extream liner on top of the shield alot of the sound waves are absorbed before they get into the cabin.. also make sure your tail pipes are at least2 in past the opening and at least 12mm below the little metal brace at the opening .

i suspect that keeping the cats cuts down on resonance some, because my system is quite free flowing, and i have no rez at all...or is it im more tolerant than some others?

having the cats on does help a bunch . i dont have them on my blk car and had to resort to the above methods to stop oding on asprin to drive the car. my callaway snat zr1 has corsa exhaust . its very quiet at cruize and not bad at full throttle dont know if its restrictive or not ? does anyone know or have a comparo with others like b&b and flowmaster /

Its gonna be loud as hell, cant wait. Cutting the stock LT1 tips off some mufflers and beadblasting/painting them tomorrow. Woohoo!
I need a life. See what happens when you get free time?

If the exhaust sound and emissions from your Z doesn't cause permenant hearing loss from long term exposure and kill all plant life in its vapor trail, then you probably have too much backpressure and are leaving HP on the floor, but thats just a general rule of thumb I got from Ralph Nader.
To paraphrase Homer Simpson: "I want a car that makes the people around me think the world is coming to end"

You get it =D>
When I used to roll up to a light loping at 1100 rpm in the '67 I used to get dirty looks and people would roll their windows up. I love it. LOL!
Seriously if I dont like it Ill throw something different on it but this should give the car some attitude. It needs it.
