Girlfriend is getting ready for her new transmission, found these markings on her half shafts after I'd taken out the spare tire carrier (for the first time in the car's history):

Crabs,
Better tell your girlfriend that she has nice
half shafts. :D
BTW, here in LA they would be called Tatoos

Assuming your ZR is a 1990 you then have a VIN of 622 or higher... pre 622 have steel shafts and post... aluminum...maybe the markings were just a way to keep track of the half shaft transition????

Edit: looked at your profile... 1990 # 792

Any chance they were replaced at some time? If they came from a salvage yard they could have been marked with the car they came out of.

Nope.
I bought the car with only 9500 miles on it and the original owner is a childhood friend. The car has never been wrecked.
He did have a nasty habit of speed shifting into 2nd gear at 7000 rpms tho...
It's kinda funny actually, I called him up and said, "the tranny's second gear synchro is shot, I wonder what's up with that?" :icon_scra
He said "Do ya think banging second gear all the time might be the reason?"
Hmmm???
Ya THINK?

This sounds like one of those topics that the NCRS will spend countless days being torn up about it.
