I am installing the small tube Watson's this coming weekend (no cats at this point). I have the standard tune Haibeck chip. Anybody had that chip in and installed these headers? If so, did you have to have your Haibeck chip recalibrated for this install or was the chip OK?

I have the following mods:
Open Air Cleaner Lid and K & N Filter
Haibeck Standard Calibration Chip for a '91
Flowmaster #17115 Cat Back Exhaust

As I recall the chip needs to be re-calibrated for headers. His standard chip reduces fuel by 3% since the stock chip is rich at 6%. However for headers that would be where he returns it to.
This is one of the few things Mark does that I am not crazy about in that you need to pay extra to return the chip to 6% after he reduced it to 3%. He also has a "anti backfire" calibration for headers which he charges more for on top of his prices.
I think he should have at least a few chips for a header mod instead of having to re-calibrate and charge extra for it.

Give Marc a call about the chip.
Swain coat your headers also. You'll like it .

Z and Fu, thanks for the input. I am looking for some realtime experience with this if possible. I plan on installing the headers and driving it to see if the recal is needed, checking plugs too. I have had good luck with Marc's chip as far as my current setup goes.

You can get it redone by marc, although it's not needed right away. but if you get it sent out now, he can have it back to before you get it done.

Good point, thanks. I think I'll give him a call.

Did he adjust it for the headers and anti-backfire, and if so did he charge extra as he has in the past?

Yes and yes.

I had a Marc Randolph chip in my car when I added Watson headers. I found that I needed to reduce the timing due to eliminate the knock retard. After putting the headers on, the trap speed didn't change. The ECM was backing off the timing. After modifying the Sprak Advance tables, I was able to pick up about 4mph in trap speed. FYI. I would do a "before" and "after" and a scan.

I don't have the equipment to do a scan, but have numerous ET slips with 109 mph trap speeds. We'll see what the new traps are in the spring. I would be happy with 113 mph.

Ham,

I imagine your trap is limited by elevation. In Chicago, I'm at about 800ft.
Stock exhaust, ran a 111.6 mph. With headers, ran 115.6mph after tuning although I don't think I'm finished tweaking it.

Yep, I went to the PNW Gathering and ran at Portland Raceway. My traps were 114 then.
