There's one listed on Ebay at the moment - no idea if it's any good to you.

Dave:
Appreciate the link, but had already seen it.
I've checked around and even though he's got a good feedback rating, I don't know this guy from Adam.
He doesn't appear to be a member here.
I'm OK with waiting to buy one from someone I can trust.
I'd really hate to buy a box full of rocks or a junk transmission.

Tom,
That's the very same box the trannies came in, still has the red, plastic input protector on. I understand your logic completely, but I think this is a safe deal for a new box, if that's what you're looking for. Could use PayPal & insure the purchase if you wanted.
BTW, I bought one of the new ones when GM liquidated the inventory. Good thing, my stock one gave up abt a yr later. I sure was glad to have it!
Speaking of Bill B., I've been meaning to ship my old trannie to him for the rebuild and Bill B. trick-out. Anyone talked to him lately?
SIDE NOTE: The 93-95 Throwout Bearing has a smaller inside diameter and has a plastic sleeve. Make sure you use the correct bearing for the year model transmission you end up with.

Jerry, thanks for the tip about the throwout bearing.
Kurt White has a new/old stock blue label in the box for the same money as the guy on eBay so unless I can find a better deal elsewhere I'll be calling Kurt.
Funny thing about Bill B., I sent him 2 emails and left him 3 messages on his phone.
Bill, If you're seeing this, step up to the plate.

That's what I did, (only it was $1700 and those are going to be gone soon also) but I had Bill swap the guts into my stock case. Do it, go on, and don't worry about it!
Now Bill if your listening..............where the Hell is my original tailshaft! I have waited very patiently and am growing cranky.
FYI for everyone, if you do some swapping of parts on the ZF, the '90 tailshaft is unique, and it has a unique bolt pattern for the exhaust hanger. If you use the newer style tailshaft by mistake, as Bill did (granted he thought he was doing me a favor, and this slipped by his expertise) you will not be able to bolt the exhaust correctly.

I'm confused---
All these ideas and solutions presented yet "no action"---
And the promise to tell the whole long story someday--
Yet you are still looking for the new/old stock dusty one in a members garage!
Methinks the ones in the "members garage" are going to stay right where they are at and keep collecting more dust for some "very good reasons".
The mystery continues----------

Bryan:
No mystery, just making sure that I exhaust every possibility before I pull the trigger.
I've decided to put in a new ZR1 ZF6 and will be buying one in the next few days.
I was waiting for USAZR1's deal to finish, I was second in line on his ZF6. He finally got his check yesterday so now I can move on.
Since the saga began I have located 5 brand new ZR1 ZF6's in their original boxes.
I've found 6 new LT1 & L98 ZF6's which could modified to work in a ZR1 (change the input shaft).
I've found 4 used ZR1 ZF6's in various and unknown conditions out of wrecked ZR1's.
I've not kept track of the used ZF6's out of wrecked LT1-L98 cars that I've found (at one point there wre 4 on eBay).
I have located 1 rebuilt ZR1 ZF6 with a warranty.
I've talked to three rebuilders and discovered that the parts are so expensive on these units that it costs more to rebuild a ZF6 than to buy a new/old stock unit.
Mystery solved.

Thanks, but no.
I hate being fussy but since it's such a PITA to do the job I only want to do it once.
I'd *really*really*really* hate to put in a transmission only to find out that it has troubles too.
Thanks for the offer, tho. I appreciate it.

Well, found another new one (that makes 6 that I've located).
Won't be buying this one, tho.
The owner isn't a ZR1 owner and he obviously bought it for investment purposes.

when you say blue label, are you refering to the blue tag on the drivers side of the trans?i noticed it on mine today(after fixing my exhaust that slipped off the header after some nasty wheel hop)what info is on it,and whats the dif. in a zf trans and a regular lt1 6speed?torque rating?

There are two versions of the ZF, the "Black" label which was installed in '90-'92 ZR-1's, and the "Blue" label which was installed in the '93-'95 ZR-1's. The Black label is rated at 450 ft/lbs torque and the Blue is rated at 400 ft/lbs torque. The contact ratio between the gears were changed in the Blue labels to reduce gear howl in 1st gear. The shifter on the Blue label does not have a reverse lockout lift ring.

Mine are black tags and they are one the right side of the trans. If my memory is right there is a serial number, model number, customer number, and a little ratio info. My understanding is the only difference between our trans and an LT-1 version is the input shaft and a tailshaft exh mount as an earlier posters to this thread pointed out.

More info to follow as I've got to put together all my notes that I've written on post-it's, scrap paper, the back of envelopes, and numerous emails that I've sent and received since the search began.
Feeling GOOD!!!
Now, onto planning the extraction and the insertion... (sounds like spy talk!!)

Just curious, my 93 has a reverse lock out on it. You mentioned above the blue label was used in 93-95 and didn't have the reverse lockout.
What's different on the outward appearence of the LT1 transmission other than the tail shaft and imput shaft?
Thanks

If you had both side by side, there is no difference in looks. You need to have the input shaft visible.
The blue tag still had the reverse lockout as it was incorperated with the shifter and not the trans.

Anyone know the part # of the blue label LT1 transmission?
The ZR-1 would have the longer input shaft and tube. Correct? Anyone know the length?
Thanks again
I did find this from a search. Thanks to Uly.
QUESTION: Are the 6-speed transmissions in the ZR-1 the same as in other 6-speed C4s?
ANS: No, the unit in ZR-1s is specific to the car and unlike those used behind L98s, LT1s or LT4s. The difference is longer input shaft (~$550) and longer guide tube (~$110). This conversion requires unit disassembly (~4 hours labor). Also there are two different units (torque rating) used in the ZR-1: 1990-93 1/2 and 1993 1/25-95.
