I'm trying to get all my parts ordered for the upcomming header install, and I've come across a mention of having to modify the dipstick tube. Is this required with the Stainless Works set-up, or can the shop just modify the OEM one?

Thanks

You can re-use your OEM dip stick tube.

You will need to relocate the mounting tab that is welded to the tube. Once you have the SW headers installed, line the dip stick tube up & mark where the new location needs to be; weld it on & give it a shot of high temp black spray paint and you're all set. I would recommend replacing the o-ring at this time.

What o-ring George? The only "seal" I recall on the dipstick tube is this one.

It's a molded rubber. I'm not sure how hard it is to come by but a few guys have been looking.

one can be made using rubber coating we use to coat hammer handles. put th e liquid rubber coating in the dipstick cavity coat the tube with vasiline let nit sit over night . trim the excess and poof instant seal renewal . hope this helps

I have experience with an early set of SW headers, and the dipstick mod was a pain. NO mods required with the Jeal headers. Just bolt it back in. I can't believe this is still an issue with the SW headers? :icon_scra

My headers just came in the mail today. They and the X pipe look really nice. I'm just trying to prepare for worst case, especially since a local shop is doing all the mods. I want to be able to drop off everything at once, and prep them for a possible hitch during the install. They're a first rate shop, but I'm sure this is the first set of LT-5 headers they've done.

It was stuck to the side of my suction tube under the windage tray for the oil pan along with what apeared to be around a half pound of old dryed up flange sealant from the past two builds(factory and rippie368). The only unrestricted area on the sump screen was the bottom......it was U G L Y!

Nice!! "Somebody" shoved it on down into the crankcase reinstalling the dipstick tube without having the seal placed onto the tube first. Sounds like they were pretty generous with the hucky-puck too!

Gonna be in Breckenridge this year Ry?

Thanks for the "heads up" ... I've been in treatment for C.M.S. for several months now (can't remember s**t).
Yes, that's the part. I replaced mine a little over a year ago when I put SW headers on ... the old one was definitely cracked & needed replacement. Oddly enough I found one at my local dealer for around $5.00. Don't remember the P/N and since the General has been making so many of our parts "obsolete" I'm not even sure of current availability. Hopefully you can find one easily enough.
