It's quite simple. You pick the color, and there are 5 numbers of each color. So they have narrowed it down to 5 numbers. The "picture your number and pick a color" doesn't do jack. They narrow the 5 down to 1 when you pick the house because there is one number from each color in each house. The crystal ball and 3 doors stuff is just a smokescreen.
