Many of you might not have heard of him, but Dr. Judah Folkman was an amazing individual and we are all diminished by his passing.

His story is immortalized in both the Nova special, and book, Cancer Warrior. What made him stand out among other researches is that he was a surgeon, and came up with an idea most of the established medical community treating cancer scoffed at. They basically told him to stick to surgery, not dabble in things he did not specialize in. Despite the ridicule he got from most circles, he believed he was on to something and dedicated his life to pursuing it. Now there are several specialties fields in cancer treatment because of him.
While many tend to focus on entertainers because of the media and our current culture, this man was a truly great person deserving of our respect and admiration. In the long run he will have saved countless lives from cancer.

No kidding it good to read about these stories vs. what some spoiled cyrbaby heiress did this week. A sad loss true. Good thing he didnt listen to his critics too much and made his own road.
