Can someone tell me exactly what parts ie; adapters, cables, cartridges etc. I will need to work on my 92? I had a guy helping me on CF, but he seems to have lost interest. He was putting together a package deal to sell me, but its fallen through as far as I can tell.......So.....treat me as if I have no clue...cause I dont!

Theres always some on ebay, but many seem to have way more parts than I'll need.....

all you need is the Tech 1 unit itself, a Tech 1 ALDL cable pt.no: TA01139B which should come with any unit you buy. then the only adapter you'd need is for body control, GM Pin E ALDL pt.no: 02001244. the only other adapter other than that is an OBD 1-2 12/16 pin adapter you would need for 95's ONLY.

I looked at that & honestly...I dont really know?? I never used one of these tools & never needed to. I am a past mechanic & a graduate of Denver Automotive & Diesel College (1992)....but I worked in the field on diesel trucks.....its a whole different ball game.

what about specific cartridges?sorry i guess i misunderstood what you wanted. i believe, back when it was in use, the mass storage cartridge could be uploaded to any current status. now that the Tech 2 is THE unit i'm not sure if any GM dealer's can deal with that situation? i can look at mine later & tell what it say's, don't know if that will help or not. i do remember mine was updated somewhere along the way. for a 92 you might not need the latest version anyway, maybe?

no actually you understood just fine....I just dont know what I'll need in addition to what you listed. I need everything....the scan tool itself & all the stuff to test everything on a 1992 ZR1.

Pardon another uneducated Tech1 prospective buyer from hijacking your thread .......:o But when I was actively looking on EBay I made contact with a Kent-Moore tool dealer selling a used Tech1A on E Bay and asked some Q's.

The jest of what this dealer told me was that there are different "cartridges" or software packages for different systems on the car. Whatever you want to test using the FSM flow charts in the diagnostic section, you need to have that specific cartridge if the chart calls for it. No one cartridge has everything on it.....or at least that's what I thought this guy was trying to tell me.

Now I ain't up to speed on all this stuff....so bear that in mind, but I'm certain that the guy gave me two specific examples: braking system and something called a "body" cartridge???

No worries about highjacking...I always thought that was BS anyway...were all here to learn right? I learned about the carteidges also. Thats what I need to know...which ones cover what, what the pt#'s are & how many I need....:icon_scra

well i ain't no expert either but i know a few plus the fact i bought my Tech 1 4-5 months ago so i've been there & done that recently. the Mass storage cartridge my unit is pt.no: 3000003. now mine is a Tech 1 not a Tech 1A. apparently they are a little different but i've never been able to get the complete story on that. the 1A is the newer of the two from what i understand. the Mass S/C does not get changed. if the dealer was set-up with a Techline (mother unit) you could upload new info on to your cartridge. the Tech 1 does most things but not everything. the Kent-Moore guy? he should have said adapters not cartriges. tha BODY thing? well that's body control, for things like HVAC. you can't get very deep into HVAC with the Tech 1 unless you have the adapter i mentioned earlier, pin E ALDL adapter. you guys following me or do you have more questions?

So, I need the dealer to do something as well? Lemme get this straight....I need the T-1, ALDL Cable & a mass storage cartidge? What I guess I dont get is, am I looking for a specific cartridge for a specific test, or is it all on the mass storage cartridge? I primarily want to be able to check engine functions. Not too concerned with HVAC at this point.

my first post spelled it all out. you need a Tech 1, it should come with it's own Mass storage cartridge & it's own cable. for your year of car & what you want to do, that's all you need & you'd be on your way. got it;) . good:cheers: .

FWIW, back when I was considering a Tech 1, it seemed like they didn't all come with the mass storage cartridge. I got the impression it was a later improvement to the Tech 1. Some ones I've seen for sale had cartridges for specific carlines separately.
