View Full Version : UPGRADES
I am taking a perfectly running stock 90 and am seriously considering a major upgrade at marc's next month consisting of porting and headers with b&b. Just wondering if I am looking for trouble down the road or not. Is it worth the obscene cost for the extra horses ? How loud is that exhaust ?

If it is not a low mileage show car that has value being stock, I'd say go for it. The few mods you mentioned are not cheap, but not that much compared to the other mods some people do for the extra horses. There will be no trouble associated with porting or exhaust in any way. Presumably you will also be getting a chip and dyno tune, both of which will maximize the other mods.
As to the sound, it will be loud, as that is the nature of the beast. If you have cats and a resonator, it wont be that bad in the cabin. But if you go with no cats and x pipe for more HP, rest assured you will experience resonance at low RPM's.
All in all, those mods will wake up your LT5 for a seat in the pants difference you will feel.

IMHO, you owe it to yourself to take a ride in a couple of Z's that have different exhaust systems. HP is not the only consideration. Each has a different sound and level of resonance. The big three that almost always show up are B&B, Corsa and Flowmaster. There are others as well. Try to get a ride in each. Bottom line is there is a marked difference in sound and resonance between the three. They all give better than stock performance with minor mods you are proposing. And they all are louder than stock.

Good advice from Greg. Check to make sure you can live with the exhaust note. Nothing worse than dumping 1,000 on a exhaust to find out you don't like to drive the car. FU went through this a while back ago.
