View Full Version : Frustrated!! Lingenfelter procedure?

I bought the book by John L to "scratch an itch", i.e. read up on the procedures he uses to tune up the LT5 to get 500 hp - plenum/head porting and cam timing.
Really intriguing is the FLAT torque curve from 2800 (beginning of the graph) to 7000 rpm, where the torque remains at or above 400ft# across the band. But, the book left me hanging...All that was said about the LT5 was, if (the reader) was interested in making the LT5 a screamer, they (Lingenfelter Engineering) had "a package" for us. I spent the price of the book for that one sentance??:icon_scra
Where might a guy find a decent book to curl up with that covers the LT5, and in particular, what about this plenum/IH/heads porting? (I just bought my Z, and I don't plan to change a thing for the time being. It is more of a thrist for knowledge, at this point, I recon.)
Thanks in advance.

i think there is no ''magic trick''involved with john's recipe...everybody does more or less the same procedure,ie top end porting, cam timing, new chip,headers,etc...im sure mark, corey, and others can do the same good job, with similar results

The 500 hp package is rated at the crank and not a rwhp.
Marc Haibeck, Corey Henderson, and a few others, offer very similiar packages, and i beleive at less cash outlay.

fwhp, bhp, net hp, rwhp...The trouble with standards is there are so many to choose from!
Horsepower...If there is a term that gets bastardized, horsepower has to head the list! I guess my question would be, all things being equal, what is the hp gain over the stock '90-92 LT5 for (36mm) porting/polishing/cam timing?
I'm on the steep side of the LT5 learning curve, so please be gentle.

well i wish i could post the dyno sheets (no way to do it) but a year ago the car was at corey hendersons it had headers 410gears rc injectors a haibeck chip. and a kand n filter before was 372.2 rwhp and 356tq. the injector housings and plenum were ported and then retuned the after figs were 409.9 rwhp and 373.3 tq.. to split it up alittle more the after before tunning was 393.6 367.1. the car was extreamly lean till he tuned it . corey is very very good at tunning these cars the only other tuner would be mark haibeck from what little i know . hope this helps

Wow! these exotics respond pretty well to a little porting/chip, huh? Incredible machines!

They still have the package listed on their website. It has more details than it seems that book did:
