I have a pretty heavy vibration in the pedal especially when applying the brakes at a high speed. From experiences with other cars, I believe this is excessive rotor runout. Am I right?

If so, I have a set of rotors(when I find them) from my 94 Convertable that I took off only to put on a set of D&S rotors. Are the sizes the same as on my 92 Z or not?

Should I need to buy a set, can someone point me in the right direction?

I dont think they are the same size, at least not in the front. Here is a place someone posted to get the rotors from.

Your ZR-1 has 13" rotors in the front and your 94 vert should have 12" all around unless it has Z51 package which will have 13" in front, otherwise it should be 12's.

As far as where to buy rotors, you are probably better off buying them locally because of S&H costs. The link posted for rotors I have no experience with, but Jeff will probably be along to give you his opinion as to where to buy them.

Definately sounds like the rotors are warped. They may have been turned at some point in their life, and with the Corvette being performance oriented, thats a no no.

The price for rotors is pretty vast. You can spend 100 bucks a rotor or up to 300 per rotor. It really depends upon what you are looking for. Wear & tear use, looks or a combination of both.

I typically don't deal with rotors unless the person is local as shipping gets to be a pain, but I can point you in the right direction if you give me a idea of how you will use the car.

This is a very informative read. Although a rotor can become warped, most often the term "warped" is misused to include a host of issues that have nothing to do with the rotor actually being warped. (see link for details:wink:)

Thanks for the link Paul....that was good information. I think the best way to handle the problem I have will be to replace both pads & rotors.

Jeffvette...........you are welcome to post in my threads as long as you never change your avatar!!:mrgreen: ........ok back to business......I guess the middle ground would be best for my use of the car. I live in an area where in 30 minutes I can be out in the eastern plains or head west to the mountains for some twisties.....I like the drilled look, but heard the pros & cons about cracks forming near the drilled holes. Slotted only, from what I gather is best for the street, yes??

anyway, give me your recommendation with the details on where to buy. Thank you, John

I have a couple road course friends that won't touch a drilled rotor - one even has a cracked rotor hanging on a nail in his shop that he refers folks to when they ask about drilled rotors. For that matter, he has a solid rotor that is cracked too!

My '95 had a warped...er...rotor w/ a hard spot on it:wink:, and I decided that since I was not doing any road course racing, the standard rotors would work for me. So, I bought the standard non-slotted rotors and "street" pads, and they worked very well for that kind of street/highway w/ some occational sprited driving. Besides...my road course guys don't use the slotted rotors either...Race pads, yes, but not slotted (and danged sure not drilled) rotors.

So, taking my lesson from them, if I want to do a road course, I'll bring along a set of "race" pads and switch 'em at the track, I recon. Otherwise, the non-slotted rotors seem to work just fine for "normal" and occational track driving. (If I recall, I bought the rotors from a local auto parts store. They were about $55 each, and I had no problems with them in 3-1/2 years of driving.)
