View Full Version : Hub bearings?

My rear right wheel has a small amount of bearing play in it (wheel off the ground, rocked top and bottom). I've searched through this and other sites, but all I can find out is that the whole hub is normally replaced. Since ZR1 hubs are not stocked by many/any places in the UK, I would like to keep the hub and just replace the bearing. Without stripping it all apart to see, I don't know if it is possible - has anyone here any knowledge on the subject?

The bearing assembly is replaced as a unit; it cannot be disassembled. The shop manual gives the allowable "play" - some is allowed, so you may not have to replace it yet. And the ZR-1 assembly is the same as ones on the L98 cars.

Many thanks for taking the trouble to reply - it's very helpful to know that the hub is the same as on the L98 cars! :) Sadly, the play in my wheel is close to the limit allowed by the UK 'MOT' - the annual vehicle safety check, so I'm going to have to sort it out before too long...:(

Greetings. I replaced a rear hub assembly 2 years ago on my 90 ZR1 with TIMKEN hub assembly #513020. Was about $150. No problems since.
Best regards, George.
