Hi folks, I hope you don;t mind me asking for your advice here.

Corvettes are as scarce as hen's teeth here in the UK, so knowing of this esteemed forum, I thought you might be the best folks to speak to.

I have the change to buy a 1991 ZR1 here in the UK - hopefully if I do this right, this is the link to the sales page - http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/223239.htm

On sale at GBP10k which works out around US$20k. As you can see, 57k miles, and the feedback I've had from the seller is positive:

The paintwork is fantastic. I would say 9.5/10, or for its age - 16 years! -
12/10. There are very few stone chips, the red is in fantastic condition all
round, no fade, like new. The car has been garaged all the time, both by
myself and the previous owner, which is back about 10 years.
EVERYTHING works, without fault in the vehicle. This includes the digital
dash, all electrics (windows, door mirrors, seats etc.). The only things not
working are the ABS (warning light) and the Air-con (needs re-gassing). The
CD-player and all Bose speakers are fine, but the CD player needs cleaning
(it sometimes has trouble starting a disc from cold).
The car has never been tracked.

He's given me a few more other details regarding the wheels, age of the exhaust system etc and all seems right. I'll have the car checked over and test drive etc, however what do you guys think? Reasonable deal?

Thanks in advance

Laurence

Isn't that LoTu5's car? I recognize the plate.

It might be worth seeing if UKZR1 or one of the other UK owners can help you check it out. Last Z I saw for sale there was double that price so that looks like a very good deal.

looks like a good deal, the ac can run upwards of $1000 US worst case, abs $500 or more worst case. Do you know how to work on the car yourself, or do you know of someone locally that has LT5 knowledge?

That's one of the downsides - I'm in Aberdeen, North of Scotland, we only recently got electricity :D joking

To my knowledge there arent any 'vette specialists here, but I'll speak to some of the UK members and see what they say.

Thanks again everyone for the input - really appreciate it.

I got my ZR1 on Tuesday! Sadly, the alternator went yesterday... Never mind though - I've got a new one coming on Monday! :)

I love the car, and it's like new throughout, in spite of being 17 years old! :)

When Lotus were developing the LT5 they brought a prototype engine to my workplace (the British Internal Combustion Engine Research Institute, in Slough) for some validation testing - I fell in love with it then, and always promised myself that I would have my own one day! :)

So - my advice would be - buy it! :)

I get to Northern England quite a bit and always thought it would be fun to have the RedSled in the UK to blast around some of the local roads. Enjoy it! I'm jealous!
