Assuming the rumor is true that the new super vette that debuts next year with 650 HP will be called a ZR1, do you like or dislike the idea?

we are the only looser if they realy name it zr1......
if GM build a 32 valves motor, then i will be the first who agree to call it Zr-1.
other than that it does make no sense! :hello:

I don't like it just because GM has the habit of throwing badges on anything, reguardless of history or performance (like the SS designation on just about every model now). To all most everyone, ZR-1 means our cars, now you may have to explain which one you have. If they want a limited production, superperformance name from the past, L88 has been sitting for a while.

It does not bother me one bit. It may make some of you mad but I would rather have a 650 horse brand new one over my ZR-1 any day.
I think ZR-1 is allready taken, allthough I would welcome them at the Registry as with any vette owner.

Hello from Switzerland,
Last but not least these GM guys will say, that the future ZR1 did the World
Records in 1990.
They do everything for their own benefits.
If they remember the ZR-1 for their benefits, they should also remember us
and try to offer enough parts for our cars. The ZR-1 isn't an old timer, or is it?
Then it's time to buy a new ZR1! Good for GM!

I think its a stupid idea only because I cant afford it, otherwise it would be Ok :-({|=
I do have a couple thoughts...
Supercharged C6
-Dime a dozen, nothing special about it
-Ease of buying turn key monster
-Part of the appeal of the ZR1 is the history, development, records, etc..Now its just a fast car. Not that its a bad thing, but still.
-C4 Z had a lot of neat stuff that required thought....Windshield, AC, body panels, etc etc that helped set the car apart and give it some character. They put some love in to our cars...
Didnt someone post awhile back Gm is working on a larger displacement DOHC? (dont wanna mention his name)
Now THAT would be another bellringer in the car world...Id die to see that. Heck they could do a sunken supercharger on that, too and get a lot better than 650hp.
I think the next Z should outdo the last..More hp isnt enough in this case.

I have mixed emotions. They abandoned the ZR-1 once and now they may bring it back? It also wouldn't be right unless it was a DOHC. On the other hand, I think it would bring more attention to our cars and it brings back a historic Corvette name. Too bad I can't afford one either...

ya know that brought somethign to mind...Abandoned...
How can GM dropkick all support/parts for these cars (didnt they stop selling motors in 93?) leaving them high/dry and forgotten about....
And now want to play the hero again and slap a ZR1 badge on another car?

I have mixed feelings on this one also....but they're still corvettes & corvette owners so I'd welcome them to our tent @ Carlisle. Who knows these new owners may get curious and ask some Q's.
It's GM's property so they can do whatever they want....but maybe a little revival will help our ZR-1's out? I doubt it as we are too small a segment to justify any parts help from GM. It would be nice of them to "lend" us the rights, as a registry, to the parts that we might need to keep our cars going. I know that's wishful thinking...but it would be nice.:o
I don't even know if I had that kind of disposable cash if I'd buy one of the ZR1's though. I mean a ZO6 seems to be a better motor and if you're gonna spend that kind of coin why not get the ZO6? :icon_scra

From an outsider (ZR-1 lust but not an owner), I think it is a show of respect for the history made by the C4 ZR-1. This will be a limited production car with lots more differences from the C6-C6Z06 than have been published and it will carry a price difference similar to the original.
If as expected it breaks new ground for GM in High Horsepower drivability it will make it's mark in history.
As for the "abandoned" comment, I was an Executive with Isuzu (37% GM owned at the time) during that period and I think it was the breakdown of the Lotus relationship that was to blame for many changes at GM. Lotus was slated to redesign the suspension of several GM cars (Isuzu was being used to test Lotus passenger car suspension development). When the Lotus relationship broke down Isuzu stopped selling cars in North America and focused on trucks and the ZR-1 program was "abandoned".
I think a "cammer" may be in the future for another GM V8 but not the near future.

I think it is a done deal.
On the Forum I moderate for, Digital Corvettes. They just posted new pics of the 09 ZR-1 at 2am this morning. If you look at one of the side shots the ZR-1 badge is pretty clear beneath the cover.

All,
I'm Ok with 2009 ZR1!! The 650 HP rating, rated low as usual once one get dyno it will be closer to 700 HP.
ZR1's 1970-1972, 1990-1995 & now 2009-?
Z06's 1963, then 2000-2004 & now 2006-?

I know I’m new to the ZR-1 family, but I’m not a fan of recycling name badges. I know it is somewhat hypocritical considering that there was a ZR1 prior to the C4.
Right, wrong or indifferent, I don’t like it!

I've got mixed feelings, I guess. But, I came down on the side of "dislike" the idea of naming the new C6 beast ZR1 - preferring relatively unique status (tho that is not entirely true either, historically speaking:???:!
On the other hand, if the ZR1 is a badge signifying a "special performance addition", I guess that isn't so bad, as tho what I or other C4 Z owners think matters when it comes to GM marketing!

I still believe that it is a good thing. The fact that they are reserving it for the best of the best is my main reason for supporting it.

Talking of badges - is that the cheapest cheesy looking ZR1 badge going? Reminds me of something you'd see stuck on a detergent bottle in a supermarket...

Okay, maybe I was kind of on the fence....a bit....I like the fact that it will have a 1GYZ-------001 vs a 1GYY prod number...it makes me think that all's well @ BG.
It will not sufer the fate of the eariler ZR1's and ZR-1's.....no one will have to look twice to identify this one.=D>
The only thing I'm not too sold on is the "window" thing.:icon_scra If I had enough money for this one, I'd like the C6R emblem in place of the window on the hood!.....ofcourse, unless I hit mega-millions, I can't even afford to pay attention to this gem.

I don't really like the idea. I have enough trouble defining what a ZR-1 is and now I won't even try !!!!!!! Way too confusing. Makes my head hurt just thinking about it.

Who freakin cares?
A HI PO vette that will blow away the exotics at half the cost.
I'd think that alone would deserve such a prestigous name as ZR1.
You guys are missing the big picture, this should cast more attention on our ZR1 heritage=D>

I completely agree. I think that this is much more like our ZR-1s than say the current or C5 Z06s are. Z06s are basically stripped down performance machines whereas our cars (and now the new ZR1s) have plenty of performance with better ride and all the options included. I think it fits in perfectly as the TOP Corvette, just like ours were a decade ago.

As a total newbie to the ZR-1 world I have found very quickly the heart of the beast is the LT5....a total non GM mentality engine..what a story in how it came about.anyway it makes it a stand alone engine in the GM stable and the whole concept of the ZR-1 alone sets it apart from the other Vettes. Maybe it is my naive bias but the original ZR-1 is an icon...the new ZR-1 is amazing machine but some much of it is C6 on hormones. Anyway....I think the new ZR-1 is a stand alone vehicle in power and technology worthy a name to itself and the 90-95 ZR-1 is a name that speaks for itself.
My thoughts anyway

Here is my opinion, same as these ppl ,they even dont have C4 ZR-1 !
comments cut from www.streetfire.net about new Zr1 C6!

in my opinion, interior differences from the Z06 are what should have been stressed. other than the boost gauge and the ZR-1 stitching on the seats, the interior is identical to the Z06. GM should have designed an interior that is much higher class and different, in what way i have no idea, than the z06. aftermarket parts are what makes the car faster, something GM should've considered before building an entire new corvette with simply a new motor. blahblah hopefully you get my point. it is basically a Z06 with a new motor and more weight :(
d0wnwardsp1ra1 (6 days ago) score (0)
it sounds like the z06 with the flaps on the pipes open.. that hood is gross, and the scoops on the side look like the 90's firebirds. Price range of 100k means people will be paying 20 over list price, and im sure there is at least 10k in options.. people will be paying (like texasvenom said) 140k+, which is too much in my opinion. I'd buy a z06 and vortech it, it would have more power and cost 60k less.

The C4 ZR-1 was so unique, the name should have been retired. GM doesn't need to keep recycling the same old names and RPO codes all the time.
