Im not sure how to react to that..Didnt GM catch hell back in the day because the guys that coughed up the dough for ZR1 complain because their car was too easily mistaken for a base C4?
IMO they need to do something with that bland body and get another cammer motor in it. THen badge that sucker.

Using the "ZR1" name will probably only be a good thing for us. It will increase awareness of our ZR-1's. And it is great that they are using it on a very exclusive car.
Will we let them into the registry??

I sent an email out to the registry board tonight asking that very same question. I would say yes.

Oh hell yes why not? Even the C6/C7 can share a little history with the C4!!!
Boys this will only make our cars appreciate like fine wine!!!!

Unless they can shove an LT5 under the hood this is just another C5/6/7. We have special cars and do just fine without making our lines impure.

i'm not for it at all:rolleyes: , G.M. tried to quietly sweep the ZR-1 under the rug back in the day :thumbsdo: but now that it works to their advantage they are all for it[-X . can't have it both ways. or maybe they can? you think it's hard to get part's now, wait until you order an exhaust & it shows up but it's for the NEW car. that kind of thing will happen without a doubt.

Honestly guys why not let in the C3s as well? :icon_scra
It was mentioned last week the age of corvette fans attending carlisle last week was in the mid 50s - 60s?
I am frankly confused by this reaction ?:???:

I gotta agree with Carter...Do we really need floormat and shift knowb threads over here?
Im not a die hard badge holder but the ZR1 is what is it...A crossbreed, not another one like it. Just another ploy by GM to sell something. Could have called it a Camaro too I guess.
As far as value goes, whose going to want one of those "old, slower" ZR1s, thats what youre going to hear.
And yes, its good to see more traffic here. Im making an effort to keep my tech questions at the registry..

Being a fairly new ZR1 enthusiast, I believe we should stay with the C4 ZR1 forum. All I see happening is confusion between the two if they join this forum.
Let them create their own forum. None of the info here pertains to this new ZR1 anyway so let's keep it clean with the C4 ZR1 only.

it mignt not deserve the zr-1 title, but at more than 650 hp,it WILL be king of the hill, and that alone gives me immense pleasure...i also agree that a better name would be stingray

I have to agree with ZR1Fun. Our Z's are completely different and unique in their own. Let us continue to carry on the legend of the 1st KOTH.=D>

As long as it is on a Hi -powered Corvette, I am in support. We are the favored forerunners of this car and it is good for us in the long run. Garth

LOL, I'd posted that with my tongue firmly in my cheek!
The '70s ZR1 is really not similar at all, and I doubt they'd even want to be in our registry. There's nothing in common.

People with money to spend, but not enough to buy the new one. Honestly I think it's a good thing. Another high performance super Corvette with the same name. It will raise awareness of our special cars.
I think that's half the battle to having a valuable car, is having people be aware of it.

i will be a shamed buying push rod engine car, and call it Zr-1 :D
we are the only loosers if they realy name it zr1......
if GM build a 32 valves motor, then i will be the first who agree to call it Zr-1.
other than that it does make no sense! :hello:

if this car named zr1 , it will be nothing than illusion in your head, and no soul in it as Real ZR!
it will be just a PATCH with zr1 name :bootyshak

instead GM think named the car ZR1 , it was better they offer parts for our ZR1 90-95!!! what a shame...

IMO If it has 32 valves and is OHC then let them call it a ZR-1. If it's an engine that is entirely designed to go in a Corvette (not some spin off that the truck division wanted!) then they can call it a ZR-1. If not, it's just another worthless badge and they can leave us as the unwanted sons.
I also think it's completely hypocritical to leave all the ZR-1 owners in the lurch over basic parts and then be talking about cashing in on the name.

Okay I guess I have a different take on this....well just a bit different anyway.
We, the Registry, are about ZR-1's.....right?
The new "BlueDevil" project is gonna have ZR1 as a designation, right? Just like the C3 LT-1 cars had an option package called ZR1.
I don't know but when I hear ZR1 or ZR-1 the context is what defines the car....I picture two different cars in my mind. I mean it depends upon whom I'm talking to about my ZR-1 as to how I describe my vette. If it's a long time vette owner that is into the marque then it's "I own a 90 ZR-1", specially if the guy is standing next to his LT-1! If it's a person who doesn't know much & doesn't own a vette then I get a bit more descriptive but I refer to my car as a ZR-1.
Okay I'll go have my second cup of coffee now!:o :sign10:
I guess I'm just not worked up about this; as I had what I consider to be a real LT-1, not an LT1, & my 72/LT-1 had all the ZR1 equipment too! And now I own a ZR-1!

Hello from Switzerland,
Last but not least the GM guys will say, that this "new thing" did the World
Records in 1990. They never loved the ZR-1, but they took our money.
Now they remember the ZR-1 for their own benefit. They would better offer
enough parts for our ZR-1s. If you own a normal Corvette you have no
problems, but with the Z, you are asked: "What kind of Corvette?"
