Hey Guys,

Gotta problem. About a month and a half ago I noticed the "Z" didn't want to go into reverse from a cold start, however once warmed up ...no problem. Within the last two weeks or so this problem now effects forward gears as well. It'll reluctently go into 1st and again once warmed up it seems OK. The car has 35k on the original clutch and original slave and is a 1990. From what I read on this forum, it sounds as though I should start with the slave and if that doesn't do the trick then move on to the clutch. Your feedback would be appreciated. :icon_ques :icon_ques :icon_ques

Immediately check your fluid. It's located underneath the ECM.

Next, check for any leaks in the hydraulics. More than likely you have a issue in either the master/slave/line. If you do, replace ALL of them.

If you do not maintain your clutch system you will ruin your transmission.

Jeff is spot on here you can eyeball the fluid level from the side. But with the ECM moved out of the way but its easier to check and refill for that matter. I too was wondering about fluid level.

Also you might want to read thi sarticle posted by the zf.doc on current status of replacement cylinders if you detemine that to be a problem. http://www.zr1netregistry.com/ZR1_mastercylinder.htm

Look up under your dash..see any moisture on the freiwall Carefully feel the carpet near the top for moisture. I had the same problem as you, replaced the clutch master/slave, changed fluid and feels practically new again.

Does it help to pump the clutch (as you would pump brakes when low)???

If it does follow the above suggestions!!:-({|=
