10-16-2024, 11:16 AM
Exciting news everyone - the ZR-1 Net Registry and Grand Sport Registry will be back in Bowling Green, KY, for Gathering 2025 from May 14-17. The week will be kicked off with a "meet n greet" the evening of Wednesday, May 14. We are working on an actioned-packed agenda for which we will provide details as things are firmed up. Mountain Run 11, for those who wish to participate, will proceed the Gathering from May 11-14.

The Gathering "track day" will be the afternoon of Friday, May 16. The National Corvette Museum Motorsport Track (NCM MSP). We have selected the option that provides the greatest number of laps possible per registrant during the four-hour track rental period. The cost per registrant and registration details will be available in the coming weeks.

Other features of the three-day Gathering will include: Thursday, May 15, an all-day poker run in the Nashville area which will include visits to interesting car collections, points of interests, and a group dinner in an amazing outdoor setting; Saturday, May 17, bourbon run, and; drag racing, as a participant or a spectator, at Beechbend Raceway Park. Other features may be added as the schedule is finalized and specific times are determined.

Note also that the Gathering will follow Mountain Run 11 (MR11) which begins Sunday, May 11, so this will be an opportunity for an action-packed week for folks that have the time to participate in these back-to-back events.

As noted, more information will be provided in the coming weeks, but one thing people can do now is reserve hotel rooms within the blocks reserved.

For participation in the Mountain Run, please sing-up by directly contacting contact George Jones at MR11@zrwon.com to reserve your room and a spot on MR11. MR11 dates are as follows:

Sun 5/11 - Arrival/Meet n Greet
Mon 5/12 - Day 1, Runs
Tue 5/13 - Day 2, Runs
Wed 5/14 - Day 3, shortened runs with a caravan to Bowling Green for those attending the Gathering.

For Gathering 2025 hotel reservations, visit Holiday Inn, Bowling Green (Wilkson Trace, University Plaza) at the following link: "%ZR-1 Net Registry and Grand Sport presents: C4 Gathering". The negotiated rate of $139.95 per night will be displayed when using this link. Should you prefer to reserve a room by phone, call the hotel directly at 270-745-0088 and tell them you are with block code "ZR1" to secure the block rate of $139.95/night. The negotiated rate includes a hot breakfast for each of the nights reserved at the special rate.

Stay tuned on the ZR-1 Net Registry and Grand Sport websites, and the ZR-1 NR Heart of the Beast publications for more details in the coming weeks. We look forward to seeing you in 2025.

Thanks for letting me know, Tony. The Gathering/Holiday Inn is indeed from May 14-17 (checking out on the 18th) as I noted in my initial post. The Mountain Run, which starts May 11, is separate; please email George Jones at the email address in my post to secure the MR reservations.

I made my Holiday Inn reservations using the link I provided and had no issues. If you're having issues making reservations by phone, I'd advise you to suggest the agent speak to Zach, the manager. I am looking at the contract which shows the dates as being Wednesday, May 14-17 (four nights) at the rate of $139.95.

Sorry to see that you are having problems. The link does work as I and others have used it. if you continue to have issues with launching the Holiday Inn registration page by clicking on the link within the thread, copy the entire link (including the ?%? sign at the beginning) and paste it into your browser. That will take you directly to the Holiday Inn reservation with the special rate negotiated for May 14-17 (four nights).

Or just call them directly at 270 745-0088 and ask for reservations. I always book rooms that way; I used to run a hotel company and I always liked to see how the staff handled things. I also found it helped when there was an issue, like overbooking that was denying me a reservation, but which I knew they would clear of no-shows after about 5 PM. At least back in the (very long ago) day.---Bob

We got a more definitive position on plant tours this week, Charlie. Unfortunately, no tours are being booked at this time.

We?ll keep at it over the next few months to ensure we?re in the mix once they open the plant for tours again. Tours would be great for the Friday morning ahead of track day. Fingers crossed.

Thanks for thinking forward to the event registration Russ. We have not yet finalized the registration page. We want to have all the details regarding each sub event, including costing, developed before we open the page. That will happen later this year or perhaps even early in the new year.

I would encourage everyone to make the Holiday Inn reservations however, as the dates are carved in stone.

I hope that helps.

I am a bit confused. This thread refers to the Gathering as being held on May 14-17, 2025. I just went to the Registry home page to sign up and it says the dates are May 5-11. What are the correct dates before I make hotel reservations? --Bob

Edit--sorry--I looked closer and the Registry home page refers to the 2024 Gathering, not to the 2025 Gathering. Am I correct to assume that the May 14-17 dates are correct for 2025? And any chance someone could correct the Registry home page to reflect next year's Gathering? Thanks, Bob

Morning Bob.

I think what you are referring to on the Registry page is the small banner that advertised the 2024 events. Thanks for noting that. I'll see what we can do about having that updated promptly. As for 2025....

The Gathering is as advertised - starting Wednesday, the evening of May 14 with the meet and greet and concluding the evening of Saturday May 17. The hotel block is reserved for those four nights. The Mountain Run commences the weekend before May 14 - George (Gunny) has details.

Finally, The only thing we can reserve at this point is the Holiday Inn in Bowling Green. As for the event registration itself, we are working through the details so that when we open the registration page, each sub event for each day will be displayed along with the cost to participate. We hope to have that up and running in early-to-mid January.

I hope that helps.

Re: 2025 ZR-1 Gathering and Mountain Run, May 11-17
Gentlemen,

We are queueing up a membership email covering quite a few topics, including the change to the hotel we are basing out of for the Gathering in Bowling Green, KY. It has changed to:

Embassy Suites, Bowling Green, 556 Hub Boulevard, Bowling Green, Kentucky, 42103. Please register using the below link for the ZR-1 Net Registry
https://group.embassysuites.com/tf91ux

The reason for the change is the feedback received from 2 board members regarding recent stays at the property. Our apologies for this late notice.

Regards,
Mark

You know, I think I will just cancel my HI reservation and not bother. Depending how things work out this year, maybe I will come next year. This is the kind of decision making that has caused us many problems in the past and it looks like we are still at it. The opinion of two board members? And now everyone who has booked the HI will have to change? No thanks. Odd that Mark didn't have the courtesy to post here about this and maybe ask opinions from others about any issues at the HI before changing. --Bob

Thanks Charlie. It wasn't an easy decision for us to change hotels. Once we got confirmation from our hotel contact directly of the conditions we knew we had to change. HI staff understood and plan to renovate later in 2025 and hoped we'd consider them in the future.

All,

Trust me, I did not take the proposal of a change lightly, nor do I believe did other members of the board. We've built relationships over the years there, however in receiving the feedback we did and scouring recent online reviews, I believe the board made the best decision for us this year. We discussed all the issues with the hotel and they understand our concerns. They are working hard addressing these issues and preparing for a mass renovation of their facility at the end of this year. By all means, if you do not want to change your existing reservation, you are fine. I believe you can join us at the Embassy Suites, however I don't believe those staying at the Embassy Suites can frequent the old hotel's bar without a parking pass.

Regards,
Mark

For what it is worth?

I was the one who initially raised concerns over HI after multiple members from my local Corvette club would not even stay the first of multiple nights after what they discovered during their visit this past fall. No hot water, handles coming off in their hands, mold, dehumidifiers going 24/7 to deal with the dampness, etc, etc.

I realize the frustration with having to change things in Feb. I am no longer a member of the board, so I?ll be frank in saying we all ought to be supporting the board?s decision to make this change. The flip side of the decision would have been to expose us to run-down facilities for five days and four nights - would those complaining about the change have wanted that?

Come on folks - these guys give up more hours than you could know to keep this club alive and vibrant, so when they make a tough decision with our interests in mind, how about a little understanding and support!!!

Gunny, Mark, Marc (who I see fairly regularly), Phil, Steve, Charlie and others, plus nice to meet a few of the younger generation. Lots of great cars, good meals and a few (free) drinks at the Embassy Suites bar. Tornado sirens and nasty storms not so much fun, but at least they seemed to have spared the hotel and immediate environs as well as our cars; sorry for the damage and loss of life elsewhere in Kentucky and other nearby states. Anyway, Glad I made the trek. Looking forward to next year. --Bob

Awesome week thanks everyone! Great to see you all again.
I look forward to seeing the flyover of all the cars on the lawn at the end of the poker run. And I hope someone got some video from the sky deck at NCMMP!

Well that was a blast. Thanks to the Board and all members that put this trip together. It is a lot of work and you all pulled it off perfectly. Have attached a few photos for your viewing pleasure.
