View Full Version : What does the wife/girlfriend/husband/boyfriend of a ZR1 owner typically drive?

I just bought my wife a new car. 2005 c55 (an AMG car). I had a lot of fun shopping for it being a gearhead and all of course. It got me thinking, I wonder what all the other significant others of the brotherhood here drive?

Owning a ZR1 had some influence on my purchase in that it is a naturally aspirated aluminum V8 with more than 2 valves/cylinder...in this case 3 actually.

The new twin turbo 335 BMW was in the running and what an awesome car that was...very fast, very nice, but forced induction and all that heat. My wife loved that car the most, but I had to talk her into this Mercedes, well, being me (a ZR1 owner) and all. I felt kind of bad about it knowing she really liked the Bimmer better, I just felt like I was getting a little more car in the Mercedes.

Any of you had a similar experience...i.e. owning a ZR1 pushing towards a certain 2nd or significant other vehicle?

Wifey drives a 2003 Nissan Maxima, great car, rides well, very comfortable, great freeway car, reasonably fast, decent mileage.
My daily driver is an old Toyota 4 wheel drive truck. It's got no power at all, but will go ANYWHERE.

On that note. At big bend this year, I was chasing two girls in a c5 that started right in front of me and didn't catch them...because of my bad driving lack of Juevos, believe me I was trying and it was certainly doable in my car, but they looked really cool in it and they won our 125 mph class!!!!!

Wow, this is a sore point. After 15 years she still is in a ricer. This one a 1995 3000gt spyder (her second). She was in a 300zx when I met her. I made the mistake the second year of taking her to an auto auction where she bought a 3000gt sl while I was outside smoking:censored: . Two spyders later, this year is the first time I have been able to move her towards an car I like. She is ok with the XLR's, I'm hoping!
My DD is a 1993 Ramcharger, although 12 mpg is begining to get to me.

Heheh, thanks! The 3800 S/C is not a bad motor. It has good grunt and gets great fuel economy. It's also sooo cheap to mod (to a point anyway), though ours is stock.

The Aurora V8 set endurance records as well, just a year or so after the ZR-1, also at Ft. Stockton. It was not in a production car, though, rather in the Olds Aerotech. But it went for much longer, about 4-5 days of running. People seem to know or care even less about the Aurora records than the ZR-1 records.

While she is niether wife or girl friend a long time friend of mine has a '98 C5 coupe. The car is her third Corvette.
We have made a few mods to the suspension and swapped in an LS6 intake. It's her only car and the auto trans makes that nice. I usually drive when we cruise around together and it's great to just aim it and put the pedal down. No shifting just... Whoosh and we're goin' someplace.
She loves all Vettes but just doesn't care for shifting so she's never driven my ZR-1 but would be more than welcome anytime. :-D
