I have a 6000 mile 95 that I have just taken out of storage for the first time in about 5 years. I have only driven the car in cool weather until today and I noticed that the fans do not seem to turn on when the car is hot (+220 degrees). The fans do work when the AC is on. An ideas?

I AM SURE OTHERS WILL CHIME IN---

I think that only one fan works normally unless you have the ac on and then the second fan comes into play-- until it gets real high like 230f-- even with ac off both would come on---hard for me to remember it was a while back.

I had a custom chip made up that brings my fan at 190f (both of em) and kicks out at 170f---best dawg gone mod to do indeed IMO---Now even on a super hot 95f summer day the engine max at a long standing idle only goes to 205f---no more of those saturated 230f temps for me!!! The 230f biz was for emmission reasons I was told or read somewhere.

I think your first fan might be broken is my guess or the control circuits perhaps---

lets see what others say!!!

BTW welcome to the forum.

stk one fan on @223 2nd on @ 230. on thedrivers side of the fan shroud are the balasts(could be the wrong name for them , but if they come on with the air they are likely ok. i would just get one of the tuners henderson, haibeck ,jeffvette do prom changes changing the fan temps and the 1-4 shift 2 of the best modds. hope this helps

Thanks guys. I don't think the temp got up to 223. I thought it would be regulated around 195. This is in the area where the car likes to run when in motion. Mark Haibeck is local for me and his chip in on my list of things to do.

I THOUGHT THE SAME THING! But then one day I was talking with another hot rod guy with my ZR-1 sitting at idle for about 10 min. I found out real quick how hot they get when your doing that. I suppose anyone who has been in a parade with a ZR-1 could tell you all about it.

i do up my own chips & when it comes to the fans i stagger the start temp. 5 degrees so it's not as big a draw on the electrical system all at once. either way getting them to turn on around the 200 number is a must to do. everthing will be much happier.

Saw Mark Haibeck. Verified both fans working properly. Installed his prom. Both fans on at 205, off at 195. Demps, car is green over beige, brought back to all original except for 4.10 gear (best bang for the buck!), installation of Grand Sport calipers (lots easier to clean), and Marks prom. I did remove a B&B exhaust and a never used DRM Wilwood GNIII front brake setup (shameless sales pitch ;) ). Car just rolled over 6K miles.

Awesome car. My "used-to-be-uncle" owned that car. I know a little about it. Ted
